Superb news and well deserved recognition

Although the system is seriously f***** when the same honours list is creating Lord Michael Gove....

If there is to be an honours system then it’s right that Jimmy has been knighted. Congratulations to our town’s greatest ever sportsman.

I think the convention is that knighthoods are only given once the individuals have finished playing for their national team. I am reliably informed that the only person to buck this trend is Richard Hadlee. Anyway, this is so richly deserved for a fabulous cricketer and thoroughly decent young man.

Congratulations Sir Jimmy and in the scheme of things very well deserved. Lets hope it's not long before the same honour is bestowed on Kevin Sinfield.

As a former St. Teds pupil, would be interested to know if any other old boys/girls have ever been honoured.
Well done Sir James on long overdue recognition.

Sir Vincent Fean, British Diplomat ( St Theodores 1963-71 ) was knighted in 2005, and was formerly the British High Commissioner to Malta ( 2002-06 ), Ambassador to Libya ( 2006-10 ) and Consul General to Jerusalem ( 2010-14 ) ...

I'm no particular fan of Michael gove, but I agree with that one. He is basically volunteering himself to carry on working and serving the country in what is probably the only thing that he is any good at. You can't serve in the house of lords unless you are a lord in the first place.

That said, there are those that you would not want to see there for various reasons. We could do without a lady dorries of Selfpromotion, lord boris of Partygate and lady truss of Brokeville, for instance.

Since I genuinely did not intend to derail Jimmy's thread (and probably should have thought of that in my initial post), I'll agree to disagree on that one TS (except your second para, which I accept as fact!) :D
