Hard not to give MOM to Esteve again but I thought Hannibal was immense and some of the ball carrying he did was first class. The one moment I wont forget is when he dragged 2 of their players in towards him then set Laurent off down the line after drawing them out of position.

Trafford- 8. Exudes confidence and excellent hands at the start of the game when SU fired in a few early warnings.
Pires- 7. Steady
CJ- 7. Few mistakes. Ruffled a little bit by Moore who is a unit.
Esteve- 10*. Commanding.
Roberts- 7. Steady

On another day it could’ve been any one of Hannibal, Brownhill or Cullen for MOTM, but Esteve was faultless. A performance that adds another £5M on to the asking price.

We can't mark anyone down today, but that was a tough, nervy 90 minutes. They tried to drag us down to their level by being extremely physical. You can get away with it at this level, but not the PL. They tried to get under Hannibal's skin, but he showed a maturity to his game. The more they tried to get at him, the more he wound them up. It's terrific to see how he's grown. Sheff U really were a direct image of their manager - dirty, horrible, physical, cynical. They won't go up on that showing, Sunderland were streets ahead of them at the Turf. Exceptional achievement by Parker to get us back at the first time of asking. Here's to being a Premier League club again!

A very fine performance from a team which have matured into an outstanding championship team.

Trafford - 7 - didn't have much to do but handled several snapshots well early on, although he seemed slow off his line more than once.

Roberts - 7 - caught once or twice on the first half but really solid after the break.

Pires- 7 - showed his quality in possession and stood up pretty well to the bombardment in thr first half, and then managed Rak Sakyi pretty well once booked

Egan Riley - 8 - another who grew into the game superbly, amd hopefully now we can get him tied down because this is the right place for him to continue his stellar development.

Esteve - 9 - a very slightly uncertain first 5 minutes and absolutely imperious thereafter.

Cullen- 9 - managed the game superbly.

Brownhill- 9 - forget the two goals, the first of which was outstanding intuition and the second pure composure, thus was an outstanding afternoon's work. Ratted and showed his quality whenever he could.

Hannibal - 9 - his best performance for Burnley by miles and I expect his mix of industry, dynamism and quality to come I to it's own in the Premier League.

Edwards- 7 - much improved on recent weeks and involved in much of our best stuff first half, including the opening goal.

Anthony- 7 - fairly quiet going forwards but worked phenomenally hard and his goal saving tackle on Brereton Diaz epitomises the standards Parker has set.

Flemming- 7 - battled hard and showed some neat touches, although he wasn't always in the game.

Laurent- 8 - got through 90 minutes worth of work in half an hour. His physicality and drive will be an asset in the Premier League.

Sarmiento- worked hard but on the margins
Worrall, Barnes- did what they had to do.

This was a pretty good summation of our season. Sheffield United paid us the compliment of deciding they couldn't best us in a football match and so picked a team designed to wom an arm wrestle and load everything on Hamer's quality with the second ball - it worked for the equaliser, threatened to a couple of other times but once we'd got to grips with it after 15 minutes we broadly controlled the game, before succeeding in making the second half a virtual non event. Rak Sakyi briefly threatened to give a second wind but well before the end we looked to have the game well under control, and a 4-1 aggregate in two comfortable wins against Sheffield United is probably the measure of our superiority.

Now to prepare for next season. Hopefully the lessons of two years ago have been learned and we aim both for more experience, and less turnover. The template of this team feels better equipped than two seasons ago even if it isn't as fluent or individually talented. Huge kudos to Parker who had overseen a remarkable progression over the season and deserves all the praise that will come his way. There were plenty of doubts earlier on the season, and I had some of them, but he's proved them wrong in emphatic fashion.

We edged the most important game of the season when in all honesty a draw would probably have been a fair result and that's what gets teams promoted. The guy next to me said early second half we really need that third goal. I said it DEFINITELY won't be coming, because we're not that kind of team! Over the season Parker has managed his squad brilliantly and has cut his cloth accordingly. IE He's focused on defence for much of the season because that's where we had the riches and that's also why we've been a better side away from home (well certainly before Edwards arrived) A monumental effort all round, whatever happens next season.

Nerves possibly got in the way of any attention to detail on my part, but:

Trafford 8 - Just a very accomplished goalkeeper
Roberts 7 - Did what he needed to do well
Pires 7 - See Roberts
Esteve 9 - Best player on the pitch
Egan-Riley 7 - See Roberts
Cullen 8 - At the heart of what we do
Brownhill 9 - Outstanding. A proper talisman today
Hannibal 9 - Superb throughout. Brilliant use of the ball and a thorn in their side
Anthony 7 - Carried us up the pitch
Edwards 6 - Started brightly and involved in the first goal, but faded a bit
Flemming 7 - Kept their bit centre back occupied

Laurent 7 - Did well when he came on.

The lads rose to the occasion and managed the game fantastically well, to the point where Trafford had little to do in the second half.

First time this season I’ve felt any nerves pre-match but that was more to do with the size of the game (we have a league to win) than the opposition, who have done to get where to get where they have with only one footballer in the team. They had no chance of outplaying us so started with the strongarm stuff mixed with booting it over the top from the outset. That didn’t work either and whilst they got the ball into some decent areas, this never felt like a game that we didn’t have control over.

Trafford 7 one fine catch under pressure was the extent of his test

Roberts 7 standard, nothing wild either way kind of game

Egan-Riley 8 largely untroubled

Esteve 10 a cut above everything in this league and a good few in the one above

Pires 8 his booking was a nonsense but he wasn’t fazed and had another good game

Cullen 9 metronome

Brownhill 10 whilst Esteve is the best player in the division, it’s very difficult to look past Brownhill for Championship player of the season. 16 goals and 5 assists from midfield doesn’t even cover the influence he has on our team. A proper captain.

Hannibal 9 excellent, set the tone, wound them up and kept his head.

Edwards 7 didn’t look to be moving as freely as he kight but involved in some decent bits of play

Anthony 7 all about how hard he works, getting back to tackle El Bastardo was the highlight

Flemming 7 battled hard against 2 lumps, looked like he should have had a pen

Laurent 8 exactly what was needed to keep the grip on the midfield and got us forward later on

Everyone deserves to celebrate promotion tonight, then let’s go and get 6 from the last two. I’ve said all along we’re the best team in this league and that’s 10 points now from our two closest rivals. Be nice to make it unequivocal.
