What Now For Sheff Utd
So pleased tonight I am not a blades fan. They must hate us-we beat them in the 2008/9 play offs and have a good record v them. I think its now 4 straight wins including us scoring 5 against them twice last season in the PL
Wilder has a mega task now in lifting them in the play-offs, Could they do another "Leeds" as per last year's play offs ie get to 90 points and not become winners. Wilder has brought in a lot of players who at best are ordinary championship footballers-Choudhary, Brereton Diaz, Cannon, Holding. His behaviour from the touchline is poor, and I suspect if they fail to get promotion the new owners may look for a more polished and better technicaly coach/ manager

Not going into the play offs with form is not good. Sunderland in a similar position, though they benched half their starters today.
Can’t see either of them winning it.

Nine play off campaigns
Zero promotions
Can understand why they’re worried

Hope they lose the playoffs in the final again, rot next season and keep dropping!

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
all the play off teams lost today
Last 3 play offs the team that finish 3rd lost, won, lost so if the streak continues they will win. Like them or not, they are going to end up in or around 90 points which is much better than the rest, they deserve to go up.

I’d like to see Bristol City go up. I have no ill will towards Sheff Utd though.

Out or all of the teams currently in the playoffs, I hope it's them or Bristol City.
Coventry and Sunderland fans are absolute weirdos.
Not all of them obviously, but as a demographic. Very strange

Would like to see them go up as a local team to me but have a feeling this is the end of their top flight period for a decade or so. Next season will be brutal and they have to throw everything at the playoffs.

Not that much from what I hear. Relative to parachute money etc.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 12:15 amAll that depends how much money their new owners have surely ?
If they stay down, Leicester and Southampton have to be top two favourites, Birmingham have the owners behind them. Ipswich could yet come again.
Won’t be easy.

yeah very true, I can't see Ipswich losing too many and they signed some top Championship players, I think they'll be strong.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 12:46 amNot that much from what I hear. Relative to parachute money etc.

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
Such have been some recent results/form in the Championship I can't predict at all how the playoff are likely to go. As with Jedi, I have never had a problem with Sheff Utd either - in fact along with a small group of other teams for various reasons (Fleetwood, Orient, York, Lincoln, Southend, Motherwell) they have always been a club I have kept half an eye on as they were the first team I ever saw Burnley play when my dad blooded me me as a Claret at the Turf in 1965.jedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 12:07 amI’d like to see Bristol City go up. Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
I think the fact they have a couple of weeks to get used to the idea of playoffs helps them.
They can give everyone a break, play those that needs some minutes.
I would give them a few days off, take em out for a day and then get back on it.
If the home fans can raise the roof for the last game that will help.
I fancy them, they have a lot of forwards and not many teams have a steve who lastnight made several goal saving tackles.

I think the fact they can reset in the next two games will help them. They are a big, strong team with some clever players like Hamer and O’ Hare. It’s just whether they can shake off the disappointment.

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
Sunderland, Boro, Bristol City, Coventry, Sheff Utd all lost yesterday. Incredible, and it shows how the pressure can play a massive part at this time of year.
I haven't a clue who will go up, but I wouldn't fancy Sheffield they have just shown time and again they can't handle it, neither can Wilder.

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
I hope they go up, Bramall Lane is a good away match. I think they’ll struggle though, they’ve better players than the rest but not sure they’re fit enough and the playoffs are pretty intense. They had no extra gear tonight.
Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
They deserve to go up as they are by far better than anyone one else in the playoffs and will finish about 20 points clear of 6th place.

They'll lose in the playoffs, like they always do.
Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
They’ve got absolutely no chance. Wilder in his pre match interview said something along the lines of bringing emotions into the game. That, with their players is the very last thing you want to do. They can’t deal with it.

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
You can't have a fan as a manager.
Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
I have the opposite view to many on here as I think Sheffield will go up. They are still a very string side and putting the personal views on Wilder to one side I think his experience will see them through.
Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
Hope they do go up as they are the third best team in the league and it would be nice to know where 6 of our survival points target are coming from

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
Having re-watched last night I think Wilder made a couple of strange decisions.
1) if he’s playing Moore who wins headers he need wingers that get to the goal line and deliver. Instead he went with BBD &Burrows who just can’t do that.
Instead they played long forward balls that sailed over his head and made him anonymous.
2) Choudhury played very well at RB but he is a midfielder. Seriki, who came on late, is a natural attacking FB.
Still I’m not complaining.

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
Considering Bristol City, Sunderland, Coventry and Boro all lost yesterday to lower teams. I don't think any of them are in great form. Play offs are wide open and I think Sheff U will do it if Wilder picks the right team and can motivate himself and the team. Time for him to stop complaining about everything and be a manager.
Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
What was also very apparent last night was the fact they had an abundance of options in the forward areas, especially off the bench. Whereas we had only Barnes to bring on. I know Foster is injured, but to get promoted with such sparse attacking options has been incredible

Re: What Now For Sheff Utd
It'll be nice to watch the playoffs without us in it. Honestly I think it's absolute toss up, could see any of the current teams in playoff spots winning it. I'd like Bristol City to do it, a new team in the prem and probably the least likely to outdo us next season.

To think as well of all that brass they spent in January for that final push, the only thing they forgot though was having Wilder in charge!
