Gary Weaver
Ruined last nights commentary by referencing Leeds far too frequently.
“Football Royalty” he called them.
They’ve won 3 top titles, 1 FA Cup and 1 League Cup, 1 title and 1 LC more than us.
Sheffield is Yorkshires football centre. If they had a combined team they’d be in the PL with 60k every home game.

Don’t like Leeds primarily because of their supporters but no denying they are a big team with a great history. As we do too.

Re: Gary Weaver
I was raised in North Yorkshire and until the mid 60s nobody supported them and they had won nothing. It was only after their first year back up when they were runners up in the league and FA Cup that the support came.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 9:37 amBut they haven’t got a combined team have they ?

Mid 60s to today isn’t really “history”.

Re: Gary Weaver
Leeds basically had a golden era late 60s / early 70s
And have won one thing since
But nothing for over 30 years
Which possibly makes them currently less relevant than:
Arsenal
Man U
Man City
Liverpool
Chelsea
Blackburn
Leicester
Everton
Portsmouth
Wigan
Villa
Spurs
Middlesbrough
Birmingham
Swansea
Newcastle
West Ham
Now I'm not saying Leeds are a lesser club than Swansea. But they aren't footballing royalty. They've been a successful club in the past, with a reasonable fan base. That's about it. And they've only spent 3 seasons in the top flight in 20 years.

Ok…..shall we say that 1914 to 1921 is real history then ? - that way we can go count ourselves as world giants and footballing royalty. We better not include the 30 years before this though as it brings in Preston and Blackburn as bigger than us.
What is the point you are trying to make ? That we are bigger than Leeds and have a better history ?
Or do you just not like Leeds ? (Which is fine btw !!)

Re: Gary Weaver
Not at all. I wasn’t comparing us to Leeds in the one being better than the other just that their history does NOT make them “football royalty”Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 10:06 am

That was just a silly quote from Weaver my biggest nit pick was with him mentioning them every other minute whilst commentating on Burnley v Blades

Re: Gary Weaver
It isn't just him, the media and pundits have had us written off all season. It was only a matter of time until we fell away. This despite our superb defence, despite our unbeaten run, and despite the current form table since Christmas.
I'm not complaining, we've been sailing under the wind for the last 2 months and they've had to deal with the expectation.

Re: Gary Weaver
Slightly related, who was on comms with Phil Bird yesterday? On the bits I've seen, he was awful, just kept talking at the same time as Phll. He called him John, could only think of John Francis.

Re: Gary Weaver
The fact that Sky Sports have their promotion, the video of them celebrating and then a video showing their season and how they got promoted as the top 3 articles on their app and website should tell you everything. We are the 6th article from the top btw.

For such a supposedly mediocre irrelevant club, it’s amazing how much Leeds Utd live rent free in fans of a certain ages heads!

You can tell from his commentary that he adores our club.

Re: Gary Weaver
I think we should all be able to agree on this:
Taking their history as a whole, for a huge city club, Leeds have been massive underachievers
Taking our history as a whole for a small-town club in a deprived part of the country, Burnley have been massive overachievers.

Re: Gary Weaver
Gary Weaver and Hinchcliffe ruin all games with not stop talking for the whole game
I watched on ITV much better imo

Re: Gary Weaver
Watched on Sky but the constant referencing of Leeds got my back up a bit and when they split screened it in the dying seconds relegating our holding out for the win (or heaven forbid SU punting it upfield and leveling) to a box on the left of the screen whilst various Leeds players sprayed champagne took the biscuit. I changed to ITV after the final whistle as the Leeds focus continued and rather wish I'd watched the whole thing there.

Re: Gary Weaver
I've mentioned to Leeds fans before who mock our attendances.. if Leeds had a similar percentage of the town/city population turning up to watch the team, Leeds should be getting around 188,000 to every home game.. Burnley's support really isn't replicated anywhere in the world.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Tue Apr 22, 2025 12:22 pmI think we should all be able to agree on this:

One positive for next season is hopefully they keep Farke as he's never achieved in the PL

Re: Gary Weaver
Leeds ARE a big club, nobody argues that.
The issue most fans have, is the fact that they aren't as big as they and the media think they are.
