He's better than anything Manchester United have, and I know thats not hard at the moment, but that's the level he will go to

Nope, Gary Cahill has that honour and it’s not close.
I reckon most people won't agree

Many might think Cahill was better - but I doubt many will think it's not close

We've shut out top PL teams at home before. He's an incredible talent and has been phenomenal all year, but Kieffer Moore and Tom Cannon are quite a way off some of the forwards we've seen off at the Turf over the past 16 years.

Reminds me of watching the likes of Cahill, Trippier and Ings. Look way too good for the Championship and belong in the Prem.

Unbelievable talent, destined for the top.
There are maybe other CHs in the Prem who are better, but I doubt there is a 22 year old CH anywhere who can compare.
The bonus for us is his contract, and the fact he knows he's guaranteed a start with us.
Hopefully we can watch him grow for a couple of seasons yet.

We’ve been blessed with some top CH recently. Some looked they put everything into each and every tackle and looked like they’d been through a war to win the ball. But this guy could quadruple dunk a rich tea biscuit whilst making a last ditch clearance and walk away as if he’s come out of a spa. Supreme.

He has the rare asset for a ch of genuine pace. Which elevated him to the highest level. I lost count of the times when I thought an opposition player was in on goal before Steeeve appeared as if by magic. If only we could keep him and ER for one more season

I find it unbelievable that certain posters are griping about Steve.
Ok he may not be world class…yet, but he is a very talented player and at his age, he’s only going to get better.
Let’s hope we can hang on to him.

It was an immaculate performance, from Esteve yesterday.

I gave him a 10 score, which is as rare as hens teeth.

However, unusually, I am about to vote Hannibal for M O M. I thought his display and gut bursting energy epitomises the team desire to win and he never stopped.

Trafford, Esteve, Egan-Riley, and Humphries are all 22. Pires is only 24. All of them have grown into the season and played with a maturity way beyond their age and experience. We've been blessed with some fabulous young players over the years, particularly defenders (Cahill, Trippier, Mee, Keane spring to mind), but most of them were playing a part alongside an experienced defence (Sinclair, McGreal, Duff, Shackell etc). Roberts has been the only experienced member of the back 5. The fact they've been so consistent is a testament to them, Parker, and the coaching staff.

He's an obvious cut above this division, that much was clear very early on in the season. Next season his pace advantage will be largely nullified though so it will be interesting to see how he gets on, hopefully we get the privilege.

I'm making the most of this. Like many of the older Clarets I've known more relegations than I care to count.

And for the moment this lad is a Claret and I'm making the most of his time at Burnley.

I believe he will play for France one day. My eldest was sceptical at first when I said that - just look at who plays CB for France - but he's more and more impressed. It will be mighty tough because Saliba, Konaté and Upemacano are top defenders but Maxime's reading of the game is excellent.

Next season will be much harder but he knows that.

Vive Maxime Estève!

You can only go off what you've seen.

That said, although I never saw him play, it's just a given for me that Jimmy McIlroy will always be Burnley's greatest player.

I've got not one single doubt that Esteve will turn out to be a capable Premier League defender. He came out of the last 4 months of the 2023/24 season with a lot of credit considering he was new to the country and league, and was slotting into a horribly organised team that was shipping goals and was low on confidence.

I just hope and pray that conservations are had during the summer along the lines of giving us a year and then we won't stand in his way when a big offer comes in, like we did with Michael Keane. We just can't afford to lose, or indeed replace, his acceleration and reading of the game if we hope to survive.

No need to come down from anything. Also no need to claim that Esteve is a world class defender at this moment.

A lot of people confuse pace with speed of thought and better technical ability. That’s the difference in the Prem

Magnificent footballer and a brilliant personality. The fact that he is left-footed probably makes him even more desirable to his suitors.

I do get we are biased but who has the been comparable for consistency and assuredness as a centre half at his age?

Possibly Cahill the strongest comparison, but he has experience alongside. Esteve’s reading of the game, positioning and decision making, is next level.

As has been pointed out it is a bit crazy he isn’t up for league awards. Hes head and shoulders above.

Back in the day I feel Cahill really benefitted from playing alongside McGreal for his development. CJ has benefitted from playing alongside Esteve, whose football brain and maturity is way way beyond his years.

I sound like a proper fanboy here 🤣

This guy is far too good to play at championship level again. The biggest problem for me is that he is absolutely perfect for the likes of Spurs and you would have to question whether we can keep him.

I think he was one of the main reasons for our improvement in the second half of last season and has already shown that he is ready made for the prem.
