Jay-Rod scores two?

Post by AfloatinClaret » Thu May 01, 2025 7:47 am

Just seen an article suggesting that Jay-Rod is due a medal from the League for both our and Wrexham's promotions; nice one.

I didn't realise this but in the premier league, a minimum number of 5 games must be played by a player to qualify in recieving a medal. In the EFL, it is up to the clubs themselves how they distribute their allotted number of medals to players and/or staff. Supposedly, each club that are awarded medals get around 40 to hand out.

Well they certainly should as the play off winners get one and they could have finished 6th or 7th.

Been searching around online and can find no mention of runners up medals, just a trophy (which is smaller than the play off trophy). No images, nothing. I don’t think there are any medals.

The players received medals in 2014

I think they've always received medals - back in 1972/73 Dave Thomas moved from Burnley to QPR and got both winners (Burnley) and runners-up (QPR) medals.

The trophy is more recent. The champions got one and the playoff winners got one so they added one for other promoted teams too.

They didn't used to get anything for finishing second but that changed when the playoff winners were getting a trophy, especially when they were often finishing in 6th.

Crazy to think you could get a trophy for being rubbish in comparison to the team ending up in 2nd who got nothing.

De Laet got a Premier League winners medal for Leicester and won promotion with Boro in the same season - just a bit of trivia!

Presumably Hountondji and Massengo will be eligible for medals - should the club choose to honour their contributions?

Equally could Egan get relegated with Hull and be given a promotion medal?? He made 7 appearances for us

We’ve had 38 players make at least one appearance for us in the league and 16 of those less than 5 appearances
