Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
Yeah, it seems like some people don’t get it. Club Anthems are of the time when they started singing them, not just forced in years later. Lyrics aren’t changed to make the song about the club in most cases. Greasy Chip Butty song at Sheffield United is one of the few I know that is. I also think there’s a reason why there’s rarely any new ones these days, and that’s the routines of football fans in England. Many fans only go to their seats at the last minute, so there’s no chance to build a pre-match atmosphere. The only modern ‘anthem’ I can think of is The Angel which Arsenal fans have got on board with, but that’s a bit of an outlier as a song that was written by a fan about Islington and growing up in that area.BigGaz wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 9:26 amThere are a lot of middle aged to elderly men in this thread telling people what songs they like and what might have previously got the crowd going decades prior, but not necessarily will fit the bill nowadays.
As much as I like some of these suggestions, they are catering for a particular demographic and it needs to be something that all demographics can get behind.
So very unlikely that something pre 1950 or Keef and Mick recalling the time they put LSD squares on their eyeballs through the medium of song is going to fit the bill.
Probably the best chance you’ve got of an anthem for Burnley as things stand is Unwritten with it being played at the last minute before games and potentially instead of the annoying Freed From Desire at the end. I don’t think the original would work with the fan base though. Would be interesting to see if the club could get a local indie/rock band to do a stripped back version. Nothing against Natasha, but I just think there’s a reality that the fanbase is unlikely to get behind a happy pop song in it's current guise.

I really don’t think we need an anthem.

I mean this sounds pretty awesome. Song for fans to sing, with or without backing music.

Tubthumping is about as close as there is, really....
Its all a bit cringe though isnt it? These sorts of things have to be organic

Revive “Cant help falling in love”. When I first watched Burnley in early 80s (I’m a kiwi who has followed Burnley since 1973), it fair made my hair stand on end. Just felt so right. And finished with strong “The Burnley!” chants. Really worked, not sure why it fell away.
Shame in a way that Sunderland are giving it prominence, as it will just seem like we are copying their song. May rule it out.

Love this one. Good suggestion.Barry_Chuckle wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 8:20 amThe beat needs to be slow to get the crowd singing along, Dirty old town by the Pogues would be apt.
Also completely agree about the slow beat so everyone can join in.

Replace Baby for Burnley- job done.
The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I'd never let you go
So won't you say you love me?
I'll make you so proud of me
We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go
So won't you, please (Be my, be my baby)
Be my little baby (My one and only baby)
Say you'll be my darlin' (Be my, be my baby)
Be my baby now (My one and only baby)
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I'll make you happy, baby, just wait and see
For every kiss you give me, I'll give you three
Oh, since the day I saw you
I have been waiting for you
You know I will adore you 'til eternity
So won't you, please (Be my, be my baby)

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
Some clubs use something with a local connection (although some noticeably don't such as "Sweet Caroline" which seems totally random)
For local connections I would suggest "He Ain't Heavy" by The Hollies which is definitely in the anthem realm... or "Tubthumping" that may be a little more controversial, however it is a fantastic party atmosphere song with a very Burnley vibe.
For a nonlocal I'd go with the ever popular "Can't Help Falling In Love" a classic that transcends generations

What about One Love by Bob Marley? Ajax have Three Little Birds as their anthem.
One love, one heart
Let's join together and a-feel alright
One love
One heart
Let's join together (at this house I pray)
And a-feel alright (and I will feel alright)

This would get the place bouncing before a game and hit a large portion of the support who I'd say get the atmosphere going at games these days.

That's just nonsense. A good anthem song is a good anthem song regardless.BigGaz wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 9:26 amThere are a lot of middle aged to elderly men in this thread telling people what songs they like and what might have previously got the crowd going decades prior, but not necessarily will fit the bill nowadays.

Do you think teenagers at Leeds don't sing MOT because its a shitty 1970s cheese fest along the lines of Blue is the colour, or Young Hammers say - hey let's not sing that garbage bubbles song - we need something from SZA????

I'd rather have people dancing around like sheep to Freed from Desire than Natasha Bedingfield. We'd be a national laughing stock.ChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Mon May 19, 2025 11:40 am

The chorus from this Love Affair hit would sound good sung at the Turf.

Still think: Hello (Burnley are back): - Oasis
Appreciate the pedo connection but if its good enough to open Oasis after 16 years I'm sure we can.

Anyone else at Plymouth in January would’ve witnessed their monstrous tune the teams came out too, now that was cringeworthy then they played some weird song about being a janner but they just joined in the chorus, again cringy.. these things can’t be forced it just doesn’t work

Re: A Turf Moor anthem needed- ideas?
Thank you all for making me seem young again. Why is it that people think that everybody knows every song by the Beatles? And Elvis?
Anyway, here's an anthem for this messageboard based on the summer transfer thread, and sung to "I've got a brand new combine harvester" by the worzels, who are shite, but I'd rather listen to them than the Beatles (Liverpool), or guns n roses(stoke) or the hollies (no-one as they split up when Wigan were non-league and Oldham were good).
I want a brand new centre forward
For the Premier league
Ours got us straight up from the championship
This year they'll score just three
Leeds spent 40 million
Well likely get a free
But I want a brand new centre forward
Pace : go and find one please.

The Frank and Walters song 'After All' with perhaps some tweaked lyrics is a great sing along tune.. you can even just der-der-der along to it.. 'Turf Moor we really love you' etc
