First game of Next Season.....25/26

Post by BurnleyMickSouth » Mon May 26, 2025 7:52 am

Just a thought, when we have been promoted before into the Prem the first game of the new season has pitted us against the previous seasons Prem Champions, beating Man Utd 1-0 at the Turf & Chelsea away 3-2, who do you think we will get this time first game, im going for.........Liverpool away, your turn :o.

Not necessarily wanting either to be the first game but really looking forward to going for the first time to Fulham away (don’t know how I’ve gone so many years and always missed that ground) , and Everton away (usually not a massive fan of new grounds, but i drive past it a lot and it looks impressive).

It’s a hard one as you look at the fixtures and almost fancy a winnable game to start that isn’t another promoted team. Tricky one. Wouldn’t be suprised if it was Liverpool or Arsenal 😅.

I doubt that we will get Liverpool away as that will be earmarked for a midweek fixture. We are more likely to get arsenal/Chelsea away.

Why would that be earmarked as midweek?

You usually find midweek games aren’t between “local” teams

Sunderland at home. Best possible chance of kicking off the season with 3 points.

The Man U game you refer to was our second game of the season having kicked off at Stoke, but we have played Chelsea, as you say, on opening day when they were champions and then two years ago we played Man City.

Promoted teams often get pitted against the big clubs first up as the sky mafia want an easy start after globetrotting on pre season friendlies.

I would like Bournemouth at home on Saturday afternoon.
It will probably be Arsenal away on Friday night.

This season I am going to try and do a few more away games, so opening weekend Brentford, BHA, Bournemouth or Spurs away would tick one of my 7 favoured away games. Everton, WHU and Forest are my other 3.

I had a premonition of this one. Fulham away, with a 1-0 victory to get us off to a good start. :D

On good authority the Hill Dickinson Stadium won't quite have safety cert for 1st few games so Everton playing away for 1st handful of games.

I expect we will play Everton in games between 1 and 3, whether home or away remains to be seen.....

I think Leeds as Champions will get the big game, Liverpool away, or Man U (history).
Think I'll go for Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs, probably away for us, and Sunderland will be home to West Ham.
Think I read Man City and Chelsea will be excused the first, or first couple of games due to being in the World Club Championship. Hope we play them as early as possible, or as late as possible.

Everton have hosted a couple of games already, haven't they. Thought that might be for the safety certificate.
If not and we play them in first 3 games, I guess it is more likely to be at home then.

I doubt very much if an opening day fixture away at Liverpool in August would be Parker’s choice unless he wants to try and exorcise some demons. :(

We don't want to be in any scenario where we are playing catch up due to other teams availability.
This is the mockery of UEFA and FIFA, they interfere with domestic leagues, they should go to hell. Both clubs have squads big enough to complete both fixtures, let them take the hit instead of the little guy

Pep Guardiola stated only recently that he would walk away from City if he was asked to work with a large group where he was continually having to leave players out of the matchday squad. How that works out in reality remains to be seen.

Didn't we do that to Leicester when they moved to the King Power?

No. They had played a lot of games there, we were just the first team to win there.

For selfish reasons, one of the London based clubs away, Fulham in the summer would be lovely.

I highly doubt they will pair two promoted clubs with one another in the opening fixture.

Wolves at home for me - will give us a good measure of how we stack up against one of the relatively weaker established sides.

I’m away on holiday for the first couple of games, so Everton away is a banker.

I’d love it to be that as we played them on Saturday 16th August 1975 which will be exactly 50 years ago on the first day of the 25/26 season (assuming we play on the Saturday). It was my first ever Burnley game.
