Highest Airbnb/Booking.com prices you've paid
Hello fellow Clarets,
Yes, how long's a piece of string.
It all depends on how many people you're booking for and their ages etc.
The ecc family, my beloved and I and our two sons, visited Amsterdam a month back. My son travels a lot in Europe and is a bit of a flight/accommodation wizard (I'm a non-geek). He tried his best to get something "affordable" in Amsterdam itself but it just wasn't possible.
Plan B was Utrecht which is roughly 25 miles away and quick thanks to the motorway.
The apartment was excellent: three bedrooms, large lounge, great bedroom and kitchen.
But we paid almost £200 a night!
The Netherlands is expensive for everything but that was painful on the bank account.
Have any people found "bargains" or is the popularity of this phenomenon driving prices up?

Utrecht is very nice though isn’t it.
Not really comparable but paid £570 for a double room for 3 nights in the posh Karel V Hotel there (via booking .com) over Easter weekend. Thought this was not too bad given it was Easter and comparing to better class hotels in England’s “tourist cities” nowadays.

Having had a vacation rental property listed with Airbnb I personally would not use them to rent with. Our experience was that the clientele were not the type we wanted and we very quickly de-listed the property. They are not the easiest company to deal with from a property owner perspective. VRBO on the other hand are very efficient, have a great on-line presence and reputation but charge like a wounded buffalo.

Yes, Utrecht is a nice place. The weather was good and the streets were full. We spent a day there.
Took in a visit to the ground as they had a sale on in the club shop. Tidy ground, slightly bigger than TM but more modern. Just two stops on their overground metro.

200 a night is a bit high i suppose but for what you got it's a bargain really. It would cost you at least half that for a fairly basic 2 rooms in any hotel or a family size room and nowhere near the quality you probably had

They beat Ajax 4-0 at home on Easter Sunday and I didn’t even realise the game was on until fans started appearing in the city centre bars after the game. I kicked myself for not going , albeit possibly would not have gone down too well !ecc wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 1:10 pmHi Stalbansclaret,

Some cities or countrys are just renowned for being expensive for accommodation and there's little ways around it. It's supply Vs demand and a tourist tax. If I'm in a city and I'm doing a lot of walking I don't want to be having to trek there back on the train everyday to save 20 quid. My time is worth more than thatecc wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 12:01 pmHello fellow Clarets,

I'm paying €300 a night for one night in Switzerland later this year because a) it's in the middle of nowhere on a multi day trip and b) it's my birthday so I'd rather spend bit as a treat with some of georgous facilities than basic room for 1/3 less on the same street.
Ultimately we all find value in different criteria. I don't necessarily find value is price dictated for me, though it forms a good chunk of it

I do AirB&B hosting and for our room with Kingsize Bed and exclusive bathroom with walk in shower, plus use of kitchen (large) and garden we charge £69 in the summer months. That translates into £81 charged by AirB&B and we end up with £66.56 after they deduct for our service!
