Verstappen - Penalties
Verstappen - Penalties
2 x 10 seconds in Mexico.
Very aggressive driving. Well done the Mexicans!

Penalties given and rightly so, getting sick of his reckless cry baby driving.

Back up to 7th with 21 laps to go.
Re: Verstappen - Penalties
Should have been made to retire. I’m all for racing but putting other drivers at risk is beyond racing. The second you could just tell he was driving full of rage.
Last weeks no penalty was a joke as well.

It doesn't help that his engineer says it is because of a "lot of whinging". He should say "Max, that was a disgraceful move stop being so dangerous".

Engineer should be brought in to explain his outburst. And then punished accordingly.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:10 pmIt doesn't help that his engineer says it is because of a "lot of whinging". He should say "Max, that was a disgraceful move stop being so dangerous".
Verstappen has been a law unto himself for far too long now… previous inaction by the stewards and race control has led to this belief of entitlement that he has. He drives aggressively, and dangerously in some situations, it’s racing. Someone else pulls a move on him and he’s skriking along with Mr Halliwell.
Re: Verstappen - Penalties
Strange how a lot of people weren’t bothered when it was Hamilton on the end of it.

Re: Verstappen - Penalties
A disgrace again today. I agree originally with his annoyance at having to give the place back to Russell but to then, when letting him through, accelerate into the side of Russell is so dangerous, agreed with Rosberg he should have been disqualified.
Re: Verstappen - Penalties
This the same Verstappen some on here (Shaggy et al) were lauding a few years ago when he was barging Hamilton off the track ...

Great driver but really needs to grow up, and fast. One day he'll either kill himself or, God forbid, another driver with his shite driving.

He's a great driver, as most have stated, but that has nothing to do with him being a clown and putting others at risk.

Fangio. Senna. Schumacher. Hamilton. Make the case that he's better than any two of them.

He is. Look at the performance of Verstappens teammates. What he is doing with that car is sensational.
I don't think anyone else could drag that thing anywhere near the top 3 in the Championship.

Re: Verstappen - Penalties
Hmm the Red Bull car is still second fastest, because it's good on tracks with lots of high-speed corners (such as Jeddah, Suzuka, Barcelona to an extent). The car is built around Verstappen's driving style, so of course his teammates are going to struggle. But I have yet to see Verstappen perform outside of Red Bull and outside of a Newey-influenced car. I also don't think Verstappen will be capable of turning a dysfunctional team like Ferrari into world champions like Schumacher could, as Verstappen is not a team player. As a Dutchman, I still regard the likes of Schumacher, Hamilton, Fangio, Prost, Clark to be superior drivers than Verstappen.

That car is only second fastest when Verstappen drives it. Apparently it's an absolute pig to drive, it's not that it really suits Verstappen, it's that he's been able to make it go fast. Listen to his comments, he doesn't really rate the car either.Der_Groninger_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 9:12 amHmm the Red Bull car is still second fastest, because it's good on tracks with lots of high-speed corners (such as Jeddah, Suzuka, Barcelona to an extent). He's won 4 world titles by the age of 27. There's no real argument to suggest he isn't on the level of the others.
I was a huge Schumacher fan but I don't think I ever saw him out perform a car the way Verstappen is doing.
As for Hamilton, I think we are slowly seeing that he isn't quite on the level as those big names. He's struggled to beat too many teammates in his career. Button, Rosberg, Russell and now Leclerc have all beaten him over full seasons in the same equipment.

Verstappen is a great driver but not quite there yet to claim he's in the top three of all time.

Re: Verstappen - Penalties
As far as I can see, only Button very narrowly has beaten Lewis overall H2H. Rosberg and Rusell didn't. Leclerc will too, probably. But then Hamilton is 40 years old. What you're slowly seeing I think, is a driver getting older. But I don't think there's any doubt he's one of the greats given his record across different teams.Goliath wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 9:40 amThat car is only second fastest when Verstappen drives it. Re: Verstappen - Penalties
Season by season all of them beat him in individual seasons. Could you see that happening to Verstappen or Scumacher (not including his Mercedes comeback)? Verstappen blows all of his teammates out of the water.willsclarets wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 9:54 amAs far as I can see, only Button very narrowly has beaten Lewis overall H2H. Re: Verstappen - Penalties
There's no doubt that Verstappen is a brilliant driver but like most years in F1 it's the car not the driver that wins the championship. He just lets himself down with his bully tactics and whining about other drivers.

Re: Verstappen - Penalties
Verstappen and Red Bull are complaining all the time so I take it with a pinch of salt:) Andrea Stella of McLaren also said that Red Bull is very good in controlling the narrative, and placing themselves as the ultimate underdogs when their car isn't as bad as they're making out. Bar McLaren, every team seems to be struggling a bit. Ferrari's car seems to be very unbalanced and Mercedes' performances are not consistent (although Russell is), having massive problems with tyre deg.Goliath wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 9:40 amThat car is only second fastest when Verstappen drives it. I'm also a Schumacher supporter. I think his best period was between 1994-2002, and in 1997 he began the season with a car 1.5 seconds slower per lap than the Williams. He was on course to win the championship. Maybe the greatest individual season (if we ignore the final 10 laps?

Last season, as this year, the cars are much more evenly matched. The ranking order seems to depend on the circuit, which makes it all the more exciting.
Ricciardo did beat Verstappen 2-1 over 3 seasons when they were teammates at RB.
Re: Verstappen - Penalties
Look at the other red bull then. It was last in qualifying on Sunday. I genuinely think red bull is the 4th best car with a driver that is on another level.Der_Groninger_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 10:27 amVerstappen and Red Bull are complaining all the time so I take it with a pinch of salt:) Andrea Stella of McLaren also said that Red Bull is very good in controlling the narrative, and placing themselves as the ultimate underdogs when their car isn't as bad as they're making out. Prost's 1986 season is another great contender, winning the WC but probably only having the 3rd best car.

Schumacher was insanely good as well, I just think we are reaching a point where Verstappen is showing himself to be better.
It's hard to judge f1 drivers just off results because it's so dependent on having a good car. I'd have Alonso right up there as one of the elite group, even though based off just results he shouldn't be anywhere near

Re: Verstappen - Penalties
MV yet again spits out his dummy when something doesn’t suit. He is regularly endangering the lives of other drivers with his sheer stupidity. Time he grew up, and behaved himself. Seems the stewards are scared of him, always showing leniency.
Re: Verstappen - Penalties
He’s still better than the number 44 car at Ferrari
Re: Verstappen - Penalties
This thread is about max verstappen, who is undoubtedly a great driver, but when he thinks circumstances are conspiring against him can be a loose cannon!

You must have missed his best years then. Winning 3 races in the 1996 Ferrari which Irvine described as a death trap is better than anything verstappens done.
As much as I like Max, Schumacher was unreal. Finishing 2nd whilst stuck in 3rd gear all race and making 2 pot stops.

You're spot on about 96. The first season I remember very vaguely is 97. I'm a big fan of Schumacher like I say and I'm aware of how impressive his performance was on 96 and before Verstappen I had him as number 1. I just think what Verstappen is doing now consistently is ridiculous and I don't even particularly like the guy.
Talking about Schumacher, his comeback was really underrated and he was usually quicker than Rosberg but a mixture of bad luck and silly accidents cost him dearly. It's a shame he went before the car became so good. I'm convinced he'd have beaten Rosberg to another title.
