Pre Season Friendlies
Pre Season Friendlies
*Apologies if this has already been asked or made into a thread.
Anyone heard any rumours about potential friendlies whether that’s abroad of on these shores? Remember Parker saying he’d have preferred more games last season where fans could attend, so hopefully we’ve a few this summer to attend.

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
Seen the TST 7s Tournament Team line ups and while Wrexham are sending a team again, i don't think Burnley are, unless we are doing it under a different name.....
Suggests we will either be looking closer to home, or sending the 1st team proper over.....

Parker's comments suggested very much closer to homeŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 3:40 pmSeen the TST 7s Tournament Team line ups and while Wrexham are sending a team again, i don't think Burnley are, unless we are doing it under a different name.....

Will this have any relevance to the first team?ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 3:40 pmSeen the TST 7s Tournament Team line ups and while Wrexham are sending a team again, i don't think Burnley are, unless we are doing it under a different name.....

It didn't last season . It was practically a group of ragtags that were sent. Viseh even played.

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
Have to say, after 5 years at Burnley I’m pretty surprised ALK haven’t wanted us to do a pre-season tour of the US or Asia, either to attract some mid-year income or just build the brand.
I know we’re no Man United or Liverpool, but surely there are teams out there who’d be willing to pay us a fee for a game against a Premier League side, and could still provide the pre-season fitness that the early games are all about anyway. Interesting we’ve always just stuck with the pre-season Portugal trip loved by Dyche (nothing wrong with that by the way, I love Portugal myself, just something I’d have expected us to have looked at).

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
After a couple of stressful seasons supporting Burnley, I’m actually enjoying the summer break and to be honest would have no issue whatsoever if my next game were our first game of the season, but I would like to see the club better organise pre-season and tell fans about it as the season ends so they can make plans if they’d like to.
I appreciate that locking down pre-season games, venues, KO times must be hard, but surely a preliminary itinerary with games that are confirmed and preliminary times/venues with the caveat they’re subject to change could be issued. Then regular updates as things get locked in.
Just feels an area where we could really do better for fans. We’ll probably get to hear when other teams announce their fixtures.
There’s been rumours of a game vs Birmingham away in early August and a big name team on the Turf on here previously.

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
I suppose one of the issues is not knowing which league we might be in until 21st April and therefore not knowing when the new season would kick off.
But we are moving closer and closer but in recent years it has become later and later when any info has come out.

That’s a fair point and I can understand that our schedule and plans would likely change significantly dependent on play off participation and league status.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 10:26 amI suppose one of the issues is not knowing which league we might be in until 21st April and therefore not knowing when the new season would kick off.

I also appreciate that aligning other clubs and getting them to commit in advance to friendlies must be a total nightmare - we may be super organised but it doesn’t mean other clubs are
I suppose what I’m advocating for is a preliminary itinerary of dates that we’re seeking to organise friendlies for and location (UK or abroad - ideally which country or even part of country e.g. Algarve, but basically as much information as they have). And if it’s in the UK, home or away.
If that were released early and updated regularly as things are locked down, it’d help I think. And maybe build a bit of excitement around it all.
Re: Pre Season Friendlies
The Club World Cup has probably made organising US friendlies a bit more difficult as well.

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
Interesting to see Bournemouth in it. They’re also in the TST this year which we have dropped out of. Not sure for the rationale in that, maybe there’s no perceived benefit, but it has surprised me how we’ve not really done much in the US in terms of brand building.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:27 amThe Premier League also have their summer series in the USA in July - Bournemouth, Everton, Manchester United and West Ham are in that.
Still, maybe staying in the Premier League is considered pre-requisite to any push on that front.

Thought about it and it seemed to be driven by the Watts, who are quite busy with a new child due around now so.....NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:32 amInteresting to see Bournemouth in it. We didn’t put out a proper men’s team in the TST last year did we ?NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:32 amInteresting to see Bournemouth in it. Re: Pre Season Friendlies
Depends what you mean by proper. We certainly didn’t put a competitive one out

But we did field both a men’s and women’s tournament. Disappointing we seem to have dipped our toe in to it and then given up.
