Lyon
Relegated to Ligue 2 because of financial issues...........just a reminder that John Texter is involved, as he is with Botafogo who still owe us for Vitinho

Re: Lyon
Seismic this - they were given a “provisional relegation” a while back but I think there was a general understanding that a) they would get things in order and b) the league would renege from that course of action having seen some willingness.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 8:15 pmRelegated to Ligue 2 because of financial issues...........just a reminder that John Texter is involved, as he is with Botafogo who still owe us for Vitinho

Absolutely raises some questions around multi club ownership yet again, and having multiple clubs when seemingly you can’t afford one (that irony isn’t lost on us)

Re: Lyon
He shouldn't be allowed near any club given Botafogo owe us and Lyon have been relegated - how could he possibly pass any ownership tests ?

Players like Lacazette and Lopes have been released as well.

If he bought Sheffield Wednesday then it really would be a frying pan into the fire situation for their fans

Re: Lyon
Absolutely, some good young players who would, I imagine, be setting their sights higher than us, such as Thiago Almada and Malik Fofana, whilst also having Mikautadze and Maitland-Niles whom we were allegedly after a couple of years ago. Plenty of experience too in the form of Tolisso and Tagliafico.
I doubt very much any would come our way, but stranger things have happened!!

Olympique Lyon
Relegated due to financial issues. Finished sixth in the league and late stages of Europe. Probably bigger clubs than us circling. But there should be some absolute bargains there!

There definitely could be a fire sale.ClaretFelix wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 10:20 pmAbsolutely, some good young players who would, I imagine, be setting their sights higher than us, such as Thiago Almada and Malik Fofana, whilst also having Mikautadze and Maitland-Niles whom we were allegedly after a couple of years ago. Re: Lyon
Don't suppose this Texter fella could have any interest in our neighbours? Hutchy was adamant that Americans are just queueing up to buy them and drag them out of their depths. Sounds like he could be just the fella.
Re: Lyon
I doubt very much Lyon will be playing in L2 next season. The DNCG, the French League's financial arm, is radical but we've seen a lot of clubs relegated and then find the money required to plug the gap.
The FFP system is different in France: every professional club has to go before a panel in June and present their projected budget for the forthcoming season and their expected revenue.
But the DNCG doesn't care where the money comes from; it doesn't have to be generated by the club itself.

Re: Lyon
I don’t think so, whilst there has been some substantial fundraising (Cherki etc) Lyon will be confident of a successful appeal.
Textor is the main issue really, he has shown nothing but distain & disrespect for the DNCG and indeed the whole process all season so I think they have limited sympthy at this point, if the club leave him out of proceedings they may have a chance.
Interesting angle with the Vitinho money too as he was trying to argue that money held in the ownership group was adequate to escape the relegation, however this isn’t in Lyon’s accounts so the DNGC aren’t accepting it. It seems (to a very untrained eye looking in from the outside, so correct me) there is one pot of money for all clubs he owns that just gets moved where it’s needed and when it’s needed on a priority basis, and paying us isn’t a priority at present as he is building up capital in the hope it will suffice to keep Lyon in the league, even though seemingly he has no intention of putting it in Lyon’s accounts.
Multi club ownership can be a murky world.

Re: Lyon
PSG have saved Lyon from relegation by paying Barcolas’ fee in full, instead of the terms agreed.
