ENG v NED Ladies
Just chillin with a pint and this game is on the big screen, the one thing that stands out is the pitch looks massive. I can't help but think that if the pitch is reduced in size a bit, it would make it a much better game for the players. This isn't a slant on the women's game, it's just that given that they aren't as powerful as men, can't kick the ball as hard or as far and can't run as fast to cover the ground, perhaps a 20% reduction in pitch size would make it more competitive and a better spectacle. Maybe include the nets in that too.
A cracking goal to put us 1 up, come on England!

If you can listen to that commentary then fair play to you. I'm watching it on mute.

Re: ENG v NED Ladies
I have no qualms listening to a woman commentator on a woman's game, it is right and fitting, but not the same commentator on a mans game.
We should be at least 2 up in this game.

The problem with that is the grassroots game as there'd need to be a load of pitches marked out a different size with different sized goals. No Ney Never wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 5:30 pmJust chillin with a pint and this game is on the big screen, the one thing that stands out is the pitch looks massive. I agree - and I don't mind the games shown on ITV at all as I think they are better. Which ironically is the exact opposite of the men's game where I think BBC has the better coverage / comms. No Ney Never wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 5:40 pmI have no qualms listening to a woman commentator on a woman's game, it is right and fitting

Re: ENG v NED Ladies
I play a lot of walking football these days. (Won the WFLA Inter-League 70s cup in June). There are mixed teams and women's teams playing in respective County leagues. A year ago a county league meeting discussed possible amendments to encourage more women to play. One or two of the men suggested rules that would "protect" the women, men not being allowed to shoot hard, that sort of thing. The women responded, all of them, "do not patronise us." "do not make any distinctions between women and men." and other comments along the same lines. Most of the women are in their 50s and 60s. A few have represented England and other countries. The women want to play the same game as the men. There's no need to pare anything back. Same size pitch, same size goals, same ball size.No Ney Never wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 5:30 pmJust chillin with a pint and this game is on the big screen, the one thing that stands out is the pitch looks massive. Your Essex boys had a good day that day. My 65s team are still wondering how we didn't beat your 65s! The only goal we conceded all day!Paul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 6:30 pmI play a lot of walking football these days. (Won the WFLA Inter-League 70s cup in June).

Same situation when u13 go to 11v11
There are minimum guidelines for junior 11 a side pitches, but the facilities aren’t there so you get 12 yr olds playing in full size goals

Re: ENG v NED Ladies
Hi mik, my team were Surrey 70s. We beat Gtr Manchester 2-0 in the final. Surrey 65s came 3rd. I don't recall their results.
Did you find out why Birmingham 70s weren't there?
Essex 70s were v.good when we played them in a friendly early March. We were surprised when they dropped out. We later learnt Essex had 3 in their team who were still under 70. They dropped out because they didn't have enough eligible players for 70s.
I'm playing in FA WF Cup 60s, first qualifying round in Surrey next Tuesday. Godalming 60s, one of Surrey teams, won the cup last year at St George's Park.

Re: ENG v NED Ladies
Birmingham 70s manager had put the wrong date in his phone calendar apparently. How he missed all the WhatsApp group messages and the emails too he couldn't explain away.
