Negative Comments

Post by Tackler49 » Wed Jul 09, 2025 11:41 pm

Why do pundits etc always think it’s fair game to make negative comments about BFC. On Talksport earlier this week they were discussing a proposal by LibDems for the Premier League to make 10 game a season available on free to air tv Simon Jordan it would never happen then someone said who would want to watch Burnley v Bournemouth anyway What s**theads

We would all rather be bored to death by the top clubs passing round the back for 30 minutes of the match.

I mean, it’s a fair point. Both of our stadiums combined are under 35,000 capacity.

Obviously more people would watch it on tv but it’s hardly a game anyone neutral would want to watch.

It might cut to the bone as a Burnley fan but objectively it’s a very fair point to make.

Sadly that's what has happened to football. Growing up I'd watch any game I had access to, I used to love the early FA Cup games with the smaller teams but now we are swamped by the big teams. Someone should remind Jordan according to his mindset that bar an FA Cup win nobody gives a toss about Crystal Palace......

Palice the team that sold their away end to Sainsbury's are hardly a good role model and Jordan has always been a self opionated chancer so best ignored as is anything broadcast on Talkshite

I was listening to a PL podcast the other day when they were discussing Kyle Walker signing. They spent about 10 minutes talking about how his career has fallen off a cliff, the step down from City/Milan to Burnley and how they were surprised he was ever City's captain. The following 5 minutes were spent explaining why he would have been a great signing for Sheff Utd if they had got promoted due to his experience in the game. Never once mentioned the benefits that we might get. Frustrating but expected.

We’re a very small fish in a big pond. We used to be the biggest club in the fourth division. It doesn’t really matter.

I’ve got to be honest, apart from watching Burnley and my kid’s grassroots teams, I’ve no interest in watching any other football, where as once upon a time I’d watch every single game I could.

When i was younger I always used to follow the prem. There would be some great teams I would enjoy watching and loved seeing the spats between great managers.
Now I can't stand any of the teams in the prem. I dont watch any other team apart from Burnley, except for the odd match.
The greed, the play acting, the pep style football has spoilt my interest in it.
I stopped listening to talksport when the ever insightful Adrian Durham had the main 'topic' for his show as 'what is the point of Burnley' after we went to spurs away with a back 5 and got a 0-0

Same - I've grown to really dislike the sport at the professional level.

Can't get enough of the Clarets though, I'd watch a training session if it were broadcast.

He's right. Most people wouldn't be arsed about watching Burnley v Bournemouth, and you know what, I really couldn't give a shite.

Just revel in being 'unfasionable', there's only us cares about us. The media are just magpies, drawn to shiny things.

Football now is there to provide an endless stream of 'content', clicks and views. Highlights for fanboys to repost on social, little clips for TikTok. Burnley doesn't generate any of that, unless we happen to be the cannon fodder in the background, getting battered by the latest superstar that week.

Fewer people are interested in sitting down to watch a full Big Match on a Sunday afternoon anymore, certainly not if it's two 'small' clubs. Time moves on, it's the modern world. Everyone used to tune in to see, say Everton v Forest on a Sunday on ITV. Today, it's all about how many views on Twitter a 15 second clip of PSG v Chelsea can generate that day in what's essentially a pre-season friendly tournament.

But does any of that really matter? You can still enjoy watching Burnley live, you can go and watch a non-league or grassroots game. Just ignore the bits you don't like.

You just have to accept that when you're singing no one likes us, we don't care some of the people you're singing along with aren't telling the truth.

Football isn’t what it used to be, but the main reason for that is that you are all older. Obviously we were all more enthusiastic for something as relatively unimportant as football when we were younger.

It says far more about the audience than it does about the 2 clubs. Anyone who believes you only see top football, when you watch top clubs, obviously knows nothing about football.
Games are best when they are competitive so Bournemouth v Burnley is just as competitive as Arsenal v Liverpool. Arsenal v Burnley would be less competitive and therefore a poorer watch for tv.
AND we've all seen games between the top 6 that have been as boring as hell.

I agree to a certain extent but I loved cinema when I was young and love it even more today. But is cinema important? I would say it's more important than football although it depends on what sort of films we're talking. But even the "classics" are not "important" when compared with societal and life issues.

Bournemouth was a bad example.

I might have agreed if he'd said Wolves.

I see your point, and I’m the same with cinema. But I think the difference is you can appreciate a lot more of the intricacies of cinema as you mature, as with most arts, whereas football is quite a simple sport. Obviously there are many intricacies around the tactical side of the game, but I don’t think this appeals to the general spectator.
