Re: Number 1
Jeez, I loved Muric but no.
He hasn't kicked on as one would have hoped and despite his natural talent, I don't think he will ever have the temperament to keep goal to a high-standard in intense leagues, such as the PL.
For me, we need a big physical unit that loves to claim high balls and is relatively accurate with their mid-long range kicking. The easy/lazy suggestion is Sam Johnstone.
No idea who else is out there that fits the bill.

Re: Number 1
Sam Johnstone seems a likely easily done deal and would fit the bill for a few years for us. Solid.

Muric would be an utterly nonsensical signing

It’ll certainly be interesting who we go in for. You’d have thought there’ll be a couple of targets lined up.

I'm certain we've spoken to our next number one. I just hope we get our number one choice.

He’s been bought to mould into a future number one, very much number two for the foreseeable you’d imagine.

Re: Number 1
Decent shout that, Weiss can be the potential to keep the player trading guys happy but Johnstone would be an affordable, steady away keeper for right now.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 12:25 pmSam Johnstone seems a likely easily done deal and would fit the bill for a few years for us. Solid.
Re: Number 1
Trafford on a season loan. Transfer price low due to our loan fee.

Re: Number 1
There probably has been. But currently a PL club can’t loan a player to another PL club in the same transfer window in which they were signed.

Signing muric would be suicide. But I can't see Parker being the least bit interested thankfully

I'm somewhat surprised that some posters would prefer Johansson to Weiss, there's nothing to suggest he is any better (or admittedly worse the Weiss) and I wonder how many posters have seen either play.

Re: Number 1
Muric was a joke and his incompetence directly lead to our relegation. He made easy saves look difficult, and was frustrating in that he never used his long frame when diving to either side. I rate him alongside Perer Mellor and Roger Hansbury.

Johansson has been one of the standouts in the Championship for a number of years now, whilst Weiss at 21 years old has played just one season in the German second division.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 10:00 pmTotally agree here.

I'm not saying we should sign him specifically, but we'll need more experience for the number 1 position this season. As good as Weiss might become, it's usually too much to throw a young keeper into premier league footy.

Re: Number 1
Will probably get shot down for this suggestion but we could do a lot worse than signing Mat Ryan who’s currently available on a free transfer. I’ve always rated him highly. Certainly a cut above the options we have at the club.
Re: Number 1
A bit harsh on Peter Mellor that, I'd replace him with Tony Woodworth and the statement makes more senseGoalkeeper wrote: ↑Fri Jul 25, 2025 10:38 pmMuric was a joke and his incompetence directly lead to our relegation. He now runs Walker's Shortbread.
Probably gets a day off though!
Re: Number 1
We now get our trousers taken down trying to replace Trafford.
Re: Number 1
Without knowing how good Weiß is it's a tough one. If the club think he's at the level then go for it, keepers don't improve sitting on the bench. If they think he's a project who needs some time then best to look at a short term, experienced option to develop him alongside - Johnstone and Ortega seem the obvious options. If Weiß is seen as nothing more than a long term backup keeper then you push the boat out a bit to get a younger, quality option such as Lammens or possibly Cooper.
