I'm fairly gutted about this; I think JB is a top bloke and represented the Clarets well every time he donned the shirt.

He was superb last season, pulling us out of the sh*t on several occasions.

All the best in your next venture, Josh — you'll always be welcome back at the Turf.

Been a great servant and a top Championship player.

We needed a big upgrade on him in that area of the pitch anyway for the PL.

Good luck JB.

Congrats to Josh, heartfelt thanks, and best wishes for the future.

I suspect with where he is in his life right now he needs to be playing, and I also suspect Parker cannot commit to giving him the game time since Hannibal should improve with age and a new DCM is expected.

So I think Josh has made the right decision, as have we.

Expected news but I'm still slightly disappointed. My regret for him is that he was never given a run playing ahead of two central midfielders in the Prem, which for me was undoubtedly his best position. He was excellent when Kompany played him there in front of Cork and Cullen up until around February 2023, and outstanding when Parker played him there last season in front of Laurent and Cullen. I really believe he would have finally looked like a Prem player if played there this time, especially if we got a quality DM to sit behind.

I wish him the best with wherever he goes now.

mostly respectful, but the usual dross about him being okayish, not too shabby as a championship player etc.
what nonsense, he was an athlete, a leader, and a goalscorer.
I always think back to Brian Jenson (the beast) getting hammered on here and it was obvious to all but dullards he had THE worst job on the pitch, trying to stop the goals pouring in when his outfield teamates were outclassed, and weak. so he was a last line of defence, sieve like defenders, but he got the stick.
Brownhill, in a team of higher class formation could have excelled. , same applies to numerous players we have had. we are not equipped to fight off the giants every season, those that try are worthy of respect, not ridicule.

That's fair enough.
Good luck to him in the future.
Don’t agree. Why has he left it until now, why has it taken him so long for him to decide, “now is the right time for me to start the next part of my journey in football”. It’s bollxcks, he’s announcing now because it’s taken him and his agent until now to get a better offer. Notably, he hasn’t said where he’s going. Probably to try and portray that he’s not reached that stage yet because it’s been such a difficult decision.

It’s all the usual speak, Burnley has allowed me to develop and grow, creating memories, now I need to challenge myself, no doubt written by his agent. Yes, he did great for the club but don’t try a fool us that it’s anything but a footballer trying to get as much money as possible.

Now that is ‘fair enough’ and good luck to him.

Would much preferred he stayed, been an excellent signing for us.

Only saving grace is we will now be spared some of the nonsense posted about him on here, although I fully expect a new player to take his place as the target.

Thank you Josh, you've been a belter for us.

If the rumours are true about going to Wrexham it's questionable about his "new challenge himself" statement? Surely that's a move of saying "I'm going to get paid very well but realise I'm only good enough for the Championship"? He knows he can boss that league based on pretty recent history!

Anyway, good luck to him. He's obviously a really nice guy and he has clearly had Burnley at heart during his time with us and you can't wish for more than that from a player.

When was the last time someone scored 18 goals + 6 assists in a season. He more than paid back his fee and wages, and that was just part of his game

The only downside for me was the length of time for his message. Reading through this post I personally suspect the determining factor in him going was the lack of concrete assurances that he would regularly start this season

Difficult one. Prior to this season, his G/A record was pretty woeful. Scored more this season that in the rest of his Burnley career combined...

- Very good (but not outstanding player) at Championship level

- Average player at Premier league level - can't remember many stand out games from him.

Best of luck to him

Having watched the Clarets for many years i've seen great, great players come and go. I eventually came to accept this as part and parcel of football and especially supporting a club of our status. However I find JB's departure very disappointing. To me he represented what Burnley is all about. I hope the club gives us an idea of what steps they took to keep hold of him.

Suprised at some of the grumbling , would of thought even the assorted “ perma curmudgeons” would understand that ,coming upto to his final “ proper contract “ and the chance of earning far more elsewhere , it’s the natural thing for him to do . A fine committed servant imo ,and is hardly gonna be missed in the prem. we clearly needed an upgrade whether he stayed or left .

He's left Burnley.

I'd be delighted if Leeds are signing players who really don't look great at the top level.

But don't fret...they won't be.

He’s defo one of the players who I’m happy have played for the club. Quality player, always showed commitment and put effort in, contributed some great moments, also just seems like a great character and helped gel together what was undoubtedly a solid dressing room last year.

He’s one of the players I would always like to see do well post Burnley. Similar feelings to when the likes of Ben Mee and Nick Pope left.

There’s no doubt he has been a great servant to the club and his goals last season were key to us getting promoted. Still frustrating he didn’t sign what sounded like a very decent offer and cemented himself as a Claret legend. Whenever players like Tarks, Mee and Brownhill run down their contract and leave on a free a little bit of the football romantic dies in all of us. They are incredibly richly rewarded, claim a passionate identification with the club and then walk away leaving us with nothing. At least with Trafford we are receiving some much needed funds since it is clear these owners will never spend their own money on refreshing the squad.
The person I feel sorry for is Scott Parker who went out on a limb to say he was confident CJ and Brownhill would sign and has now lost another key member of last year’s record breaking team.

Good luck to the player. On the field he had a great last season, the other seasons were nothing out of the ordinary.
Off the field he was brilliant, the perfect role model for young players.

I'm sure he knows but it is looking very likely now that he won't be playing in English football given he's not at a club, hasn't trained with a club and we are on the brink of starting the season. The mention of the MLS recently, which I thought given his age was a non-starter, is looking more and more likely.

You get the impression his agents have been writing cheques that they can't cash. The only club I've seen with concrete interest are Leicester but that would just be a bizarre move consider he had a Premier League contract on the table for him.

Looks like Josh’s next big challenge was finding a club. I assume he agents have been blowing smoke hp him as no sane person walks away from a contract in the Premier League for nothing.

I wouldn't be too cocksure about that whilst there's time. Fair enough if the interest remains solely with leicester but I've got a feeling as targets are missed & the TW draws nearer he'll get picked off by somebody he's good enough as a bench option for a mid to lower PL team.

My thinking was at this stage Parker may already have his mind set on who will be Brownhills replacement(s). I’ve no problem with him returning but I get the impression Parker now wants an up grade.
