Who will be this years Egan Riley?

Post by willsclarets » Sun Aug 03, 2025 11:00 am

So in lieu of trying to speculate who will come in and save our season, let's see who we have that might suprise us to the upside! Will Ekdal be that rock we need besides Esteve, will Anthony make the step up beyond our expectations? Will Hannibal be that midfield starter we need alongside Cullen? Just a few suggestions, but who would you go for?

In so much as somebody playing at a level above their recent showings I would love to see Lyle Foster consistently achieving the form he showed at beginning of our last Premier League season. We know it’s in there somewhere but for the most part has been deeply hidden.

Nobody unfortunately. ER was outstanding in the position he played and it will take some beating. I too would like to see more from Foster though, perhaps he will come close.

Alongside Koleosho, Foster was the one I thought would grow in the championship to the point where it was more obvious his level was the premier league. Let's hope he manages it!

I think I'll go for Flemming. We rightly got a new striker in, but I think Flemming could score some very important goals for us this year. He gets bullied in the box a bit, but his one-touch finishing I think is very good and he obviously has a rocket in him too.

Jaydon Anthony showed much promise which imo he will build on.

If he can avoid injuries, I’m hoping Ekdal will show how good he is. He seems to be well in Scott’s plans.

Half of me still says Foster might surprise not only many of our followers but defenders he faces

I think we have a few players who have had a confidence knock, such as Foster and Koleosho, who could come good under the right circumstances. Might be a slice of luck in a game, a chance they take that pays off, but I maintain there’s potential there.

I'm hopeful Broja will be a lot better than people are expecting him to be, should we sign him.

I'm looking forward to seeing Luca this season as he should get a lot more space, like in the last PL season. Teams will be more on the offensive against us, opening up more opportunities like his goal at Leeds last season.

I’ll go Anthony and Flemming to both do relatively well.

Broja to do very well if he stays fit. But I don’t think would be a surprise given his pedigree.

Hanibal will be worth £30m this time next year.

He should have been made captain this season, reason being that you'll never shut him up, he has too much enthusiasm but being 'captain' gives him license to be vocal and be the one player that can challenge the referee without consequence.

Be shocked if he even starts 10 games for us this season.

Ekdal or Bayer.

Both very good young players with scope to grow into solid Prem performers.

Based on the diagonal passes it will be Walker. He’s played some unbelievable passes to Hartman in the two matches so far.

He is a good defender, with height. That will do!

To be fair, when I was young and mouthy in my career, one of the bosses started putting me in positions of authority. Very similar logic but with the additional advantage that it taught me the benefit of keeping my mouth shut too.

I’d like to see more of Ramsey this season, there’s obviously a player in there.

Ekdal is steady enough (in championship), but I don't think he's going to get picked ahead of Humphries (if fit), Worrall, Tuanzebe, Bayer (if fit).
Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves to be honest

Never saw the fuss about ER, for sure he’s a natural talent who is maturing well but was in a great championship team in a weak-ish league and had quality players around him in defence . Clearly been groomed for big things and a slightly odd transfer to Marseille , but I guess when your mum’s your agent ….Always presume he’s got some “ super club “ pulling the strings .
