Dele Alli

Post by 123EasyasBFC » Sun Aug 03, 2025 6:25 pm

Without clogging up the links thread.

Would 100% take a gamble on him.

Reports of him looking to retire are rubbish.

Would love him at Burnley but would also just love to see him back to his best anywhere (apart from Blackburn)

He was recently interviewed by Rio Ferdinand where he stated his personal goal in life is to be in the England squad for the World Cup next summer.

If he is true to his word I would 100% give him a go.

I actually think Parker is the right guy to get him going again also.

I personally think we as a club have a very good record of dealing with players that have problems, ranging from Joey Barton to Foster (for different reasons).

The right deal. the right manager, could be a success.

Could also be a disaster.

Last season in different interviews, you had Roberts, Cullen, brownhill and Hannibal talk about how good Parker was as a person first and foremost. Would be worth at least getting him in to train to start with

Not with a barge pole.

By all accounts Joey Barton was always a very good professional - his issues lay elsewhere. And we have options at number 10.

Other than bandying people's names around why Delli Alli?

Because in midfield he is considerably better than anything else we have.

In the ten or potentially even deeper for a free transfer on relatively low wages seems like quite a low risk deal

Barely played in about 2yrs isn't it?

Will take months for him to be close to match fit and even then you'd have to overcome his attitude and whatever mental issues he's struggling with

Great player for a short period of time and a prime Dele is worth a fortune on the transfer market but if we're all being honest here, he's finished at the top level now, hasn't got the right mentality anymore and will be well off the pace

Dyche couldn't get a tune out of him and Dyche got a tune out of Barton!

If he's fallen out of love with football then he should just walk away for his own sake
David Bentley and Michael Johnson before him both walked away and I'm pretty sure they haven't regretted it one bit

Has his professionalism been questioned previously that I’ve missed?

It’s just think there could still be a player in there in the correct surroundings

Didn't Jose question him when amazon were filming at spurs?

Jose got some grief for that but he was spot on by the looks of it

Can’t remember properly, I remember the being a lot of chat online after the documentary. Didn’t his form pick up again at some point under Jose?

For what it’s worth I don’t think it’s something we would look to do but I’d take the gamble.

I’m happy with the Broja signing and I think we need 2 midfielders and if getting someone like Alli on a free transfer gamble allows us to spend big on another centre midfielder then I’d be happy with that.

The dele alli that went to spurs is certainly better than anything we have. The dele alli of recent years isn’t anywhere near what we currently have, or need.

Sadly, it’s a no from me. He could have been huge, but he faded away because it looked like he just couldn’t be arsed. I hope there’s nothing sinister behind it. Massive waste of talent.

There’s a player there.

You don’t have 54 goals and 34 assists in 180 premier league games without immense talent.

If we can get him even remotely in the right headspace he would be our best player

No substance at all, it was being discussed on the proper links only thread so thought I’d move to its own thread and reports online tonight that he’s looking for a new club not to retire

No chance. I really felt for him after that documentary where he opened up about some of the things he’d been through. But sadly he’s never getting back to the sharpness and physicality this league demands. He’ll be a mile away now.

Delli Alli is not considerably better than anything we have in midfield. Even in his hey day he was not a defensive midfielder or one of two in a dual pivot, which is the kind of player we require

In his pomp he would have been the best number 10 at the club but he's barely played for 6 seasons. Four managers have pretty much given up on him and we have a squad of getting on for 40 players several of who could play the number 10 role not least an expensive signing from Villa.

He's absolutely shot. Shame as he had real talent.
The best thing he could do is get involved in the development side of the game. Help young players come through and advice them on what and what not to do in their careers.
I dont mean this to sound callous. I saw the interview he gave talking about his problems. He needs to do a rewarding job that helps him mentally

He was a tremendous player in his youth but I highly doubt he’ll get anywhere near those levels again.

File alongside Danny Drinkwater, who put in some of the worst performances I’ve ever seen for us in relative terms.

Alli needs to go & play down in League 2 / Conference and get the love back playing for the battle & the crack. Only then might he think about moving up in standard. He needs to get back to the roots of the game.

We've taken some calculated risks with the likes of Hartmann and Broja. They've had problems but they're still a good age and could both improve us on the pitch and increase in value. The risk profile works.

Dele Alli is completely the opposite. His best playing days almost certainly reside in history playing behind Harry Kane for Spurs. We aren't getting money back on him, his attitude is questionable ,whether or not that's being confused with mental health issues I'm not sure.

He obviously deserves sympathy and support in that regard, but in the cold light of day we can't afford to put energy into coaxing out the abilities of a footballer who hasn't performed for years. The risk profile does not work, especially given we have players like Tchaouma, Edwards, Flemming, Tresor, Ramsey all capable of playing in behind the striker. It's an absolute punt with very little chance of upside imo.

It's finished for him I fear. Was a fine talent.

The interview with Gary Neville changed my opinion of him. He's suffered a great deal in his life and his mind and body can no longer cope with professional football.

Feel for him with what he has been through and there is no doubt that in those early years for Spurs and England he was absolute quality. One of the best young players in the world.

But in footballing terms that was a long time ago and he’s been going backwards physically and probably mentally for years now. He’s been given a few chances to try and get back to somewhere the level he’s looking for and he’s failed.

I have no idea why anyone would think he could do this at Burnley. He’ll probably get a trial with someone but would be very surprised if he gets a contract. Possibly a pay as you play deal or dropping down the leagues. MK Dons where he made his name initially may be an option - they are short priced favourites for their league after spending a bit of money on new players.

No, I know that. It didn't stop you eulogising about him not long ago as 'the best player you'd ever seen play for Burnley if he did'. Odd to say the least, a bizarre statement that caught my attention.
