Says he’s come here just as an interim stop for his career.

Glad our players are ambitious if anything. The link to the full quote is here, which I imagine has also been translated from Dutch. https://sportwitness.co.uk/burnley-sign ... o-manager/

Re: Hartman
Perfectly acceptable point of view.
Wouldn’t want to be signing players who see Burnley as their ceiling - and I don’t think the business model of the club would appreciate that either.

Re: Hartman
I've no problem with this.
Come here, play out of your skin, keep us in the PL and earn a move to a bigger club. We make profit on you and will not stand in your way when an acceptable offer arrives.
Should be exactly what we're aiming for from our younger players.

I also don't care about this.
If he gives his all on the pitch he doesn't have to be a Burnley fan.

Re: Hartman
No problem with this as long as he doesn't choose to move on at the end of the season, if he is a vital cog in keeping us in the Premier league I'd prefer he stays for at least a second season in order to help us become re-established, not just move on at the drop of a hat, just the same as with other new signings, we can't carry on having to almost do a complete rebuild season after season as seems to be the case atm, we need to try and get back to a point where there's some continuity, similar but not quite as literal as in the dyche era.
Re: Hartman
I'd be delighted to see him at a bigger club after success with us.

Think that but don’t say that the joys of premier league football. Imagine staying behind to clap this clown off! I think it’s disrespectful saying it to be honest.lets be honest we will never be attractive the only loyal players who get the club have been British in the main. Fortunately esteve seems to be a breath of fresh air.

I’m not sure I agree. I do understand your sentiment, however, I think it’s a good thing that the players we are signing are ambitious enough to want to play at the highest level possible.
In fairness to him, he talks positively about how Parker presented our project to him and if he wants to eventually join a bigger club and get back in the Holland squad, then he will need to put a shift in and play well for us.
If this means he performs brilliantly this season, we benefit on the pitch in the short term and financially when a bigger club comes calling in the longer term.
Ultimately, we are a yo-yo club so to speak and whether we like it or not we are never going to reach the levels of the top 6 in the premier league which is clearly what he is aspiring towards.
Let’s enjoy him whilst we can, assuming he turns out to be a gem.

Re: Hartman
Players are incredibly thick. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a silly thing to say in the media when you've just signed for a new club. His priority should be settling in and performing for us, not looking down the line at a potential move.
I think it does actually have an effect on the relationship between fan and player sometimes when it's obvious they don't want to be here long. I felt like Trafford was similar in that regard in that he never gave any impression of wanting to be here long term and it meant the relationship with the fans wasn't a particularly warm one.
(Before we get the usual reactions saying I'm an idiot/drama queen and take offence to anything... I'm not offended and don't care, it's just my view that it's a stupid thing to do)

That's the clubs business. The player needs to focus on performances, that's how he gets his move. No point spouting off in the media about wanting a big move before he's ever played Premier League football.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 1:08 pmit's literally our model and our biggest selling point.
If we compare it to the real world. It's like getting a new job and in the first week saying you are looking to move to a different company. Of course progression is most people's aim but you don't start talking about leaving. It's a bit silly

I would hope every single player who joins us has this attitude and want to be the very best they can be and play at the highest level.
I wish I was surprised by some comments.
Not sure we need players to kiss the badge and say they want to stay forever. I suppose we could always sign players that nobody else would want.

Re: Hartman
I have no issue with a player being honest, and frankly lets hope he is right! If we end up flogging him for £30m+ in a year then it's clearly been a success for all parties. The reality though is that it is for him to prove that Burnley is but a stepping stone. We are playing at a far higher level than he has ever played at - it's very confident of Hartman to assume that he will take this league by storm, but plenty of excellent Eredivisie players have come to this league and been absolutely shite (Klaasen, Fischer, Kezman, Locadia, Depay, Janssen, Weghorst etc). Lets hope he is more of a Van Nistelrooy or Vertonghen!

Re: Hartman
Good to have ambition and we all know some players will see us as a stepping stone and somewhere to showcase their talent/ prove if they are good enough. Not the best way to endear yourself to fans though before you’ve kicked a ball. Wout thought he was too good for us but was actually nowhere near good enough. It’s a new and notoriously tough league so best to let the football do the talking as a poster has mentioned above.

Re: Hartman
I kind of agree with this. In truth everyone knows that for many of our players we are a chance to prove something and get a big money move to bigger things and Hartman is clearly here to prove his fitness and that he's going to fulfil his much heralded potential (or not!) to the wider footballing world. He knows it and we know it, but no need to be quite so openly blunt about it. (Imo)

Got absolutely no issues with this.
Imagine if he had said he had joined to sit in his "comfort zone " for the next 4-5 years.
All we have got is a translation from a larger interview. None of us know what the actual question was that Hartman was answering.

For what it's worth, I think that maybe, Vegas and Scrambled Clarets have it about right.
Perhaps its not only the wording that sometimes "gets lost in the translation" in this case it could be the intended meaning or even emotion?

I disagree, if he said that after a few games of ripping up the league it would be worse and show more disrespect.
He just seems like a nice honest guy to me? I prefer hungry players who want to be transferred to bigger clubs on bigger wages to the ones that run down their contracts for a last payout

Zero problem with this. Anyone who says they want playing for Burnley to be the pinnacle of their career is either full of s**t, no ambition or just not good enough to play higher. I love Burnley but if I was good enough I would want to play for one of the biggest clubs in the World. He honesty is refreshing
