Ben Mee
Not suggesting we sign him, but quite surprised we haven't seen him signed up for a Championship / SPL side, unless i missed something?

Re: Ben Mee
The acid test in a 35 year old's worth and value is reflected in the demand shown by clubs. I was pleasantly surprised when Mee got a contract at Brentford and his experience and defending made him a hero for the first two seasons with their fans. Last season became a struggle for him. Suspect he will end up at Championship level club near to his homeŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 4:22 pmNot suggesting we sign him, but quite surprised we haven't seen him signed up for a Championship / SPL side, unless i missed something?

He did have to recover from a serious injury last season.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 4:34 pmThe acid test in a 35 year old's worth and value is reflected in the demand shown by clubs. When he first signed for us I wasn’t impressed with him at all but then I realised he was being asked to play in the centre of defence with David Edgar.
But what a player he proved to be for us.

Re: Ben Mee
You would have to go back a very long time to get to a better CH pairing of Mee & Tarks. Masters of the art of defending, and very dangerous in the opponents penalty area from set piecesClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 8:36 pmHe did have to recover from a serious injury last season.

He’s been great on radio commentary over last 12 months.
I also thought he came across well on MNF I think it would. Will make a great pundit.

He could be top for Wrexham tbh. On a different note it wouldn't suprise me if Jay wasn't there for longGuller Bull wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 9:03 pmWould be a great signing for Wrexham, Preston or Stoke, Derby Sheff U etc
Re: Ben Mee
I really hope he doesn't go there although he would be ideal for them - a genuine leader with all the right values - and it would suit him distance-wise (presume he lives in Cheshire).Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:44 amHe could be top for Wrexham tbh. Re: Ben Mee
Ben and Tarky were one of the best CB partnerships outside of the "top clubs". Real warriors, real defenders. We had some damn good players back then.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 8:41 pmYou would have to go back a very long time to get to a better CH pairing of Mee & Tarks. Ben would have been a regular international had he been born in a country with a smaller population.

Re: Ben Mee
He lives in Sale (or he certainly did when he was at Burnley) so straight down the M56

Re: Ben Mee
I thought he'd go into coaching as he had experience with us but the lure of a big wage at Brentford obviously swayed his decision.

Re: Ben Mee
And as a pairing complented each other's styles perfectly with a strong goalkeeper in either Heaton or Pope behind them.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 06, 2025 8:41 pmYou would have to go back a very long time to get to a better CH pairing of Mee & Tarks. Re: Ben Mee
It wasn’t the lure of a big wage. He said all along that he wanted to continue playing.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:06 pmI thought he'd go into coaching as he had experience with us but the lure of a big wage at Brentford obviously swayed his decision.

Certainly isn't for the lure of a big wage at SW.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 1:34 pmIt wasn’t the lure of a big wage. He said all along that he wanted to continue playing.
Be lucky if he gets any wage should he sign.
