I’ve seen a few comments on the “circumstances” for the reason of the squad/bench last Saturday, but not actually what those circumstances were.

Can anybody shed some light on that?

It was because of Sheffield Wednesday pulling out of the friendly which meant we had an in-house game at Gawthorpe. That meant more players required than expected so those scheduled to be on the bench at Stoke played in that game instead with their places at Stoke going to youngsters. The most senior player on the bench was Joe Westley who the club knew was leaving.

Thanks Tony. I’d assumed it would have been something like that but wasn’t aware it was Sheff Wed
