Heckingbottom on private fitness trainers
Heckingbottom’s gone off on a bit of of rant after one of his players picked up an injury working with a private trainer and appears to have banned PNE players from using them going forward. His anger is directed squarely at the trainer.
Seems a bit of a misdirected rant to me unless he’s suggesting negligence on the part of this particular practitioner. Surely it’s the players who decide to use them and the trainer is well within their rights to promote their business?

Maybe he should be contemplating whether he should be playing racists rather than castigating hard working professionals.

He needs to vent his anger at the player. I’m amazed that the club don’t have a policy whereby players are not allowed private fitness sessions without strict agreement with their respective club, if they do have such a policy then it’s on the player to face the music.

I think he's right but should direct his anger at the player and at himself/staff/club who shouldn't have allowed this.
You see tons of of charlatans in the fitness world that create completely made-up routines, without giving consideration to stuff like current work-load, heart rate variability etc often using novel exercises to stand out from the crowd all to get extra clicks... mix in a professional footballer and it generates even more clicks.

He’s totally out of order for calling the guy out by name. It’s his livelihood and if a player wanted to use his services, that’s down to the player. Injuries can happen at any time. Looks like Josh Brownhill and Armando Broja have worked with him so he’s clearly well regarded.

Agree, but you’d imagine a highly paid professional who also have people who look after their interests, would do their research before getting involved with any particular trainer. If they end up with a “charlatan”, then more fool them.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 11:41 amI think he's right but should direct his anger at the player and at himself/staff/club who shouldn't have allowed this.

You'd hope, but the dopamine hit from social media clout is incredibly strong - it often overrides common sense.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Aug 10, 2025 11:50 amAgree, but you’d imagine a highly paid professional who also have people who look after their interests, would do their research before getting involved with any particular trainer. Add in the hype around anything that seems novel or cutting-edge, and athletes can get blinded.
They're so desperate for that competitive edge that they'll buy into any 'revolutionary' training method, especially if it looks good on Instagram.
Re: Heckingbottom on private fitness trainers
A club paying a playing professional his wages and who is trained by professional coaching staff isn't enough nowadays? It's not like it's an international break or the summer.
Re: Heckingbottom on private fitness trainers
Heckingbottom has always come across with a massive chip on his shoulder. Like he doesn’t believe he’s good enough to be in the position he’s in. Going after the little guy like that sums up his paranoia.
