Differing Club Profiles

I was thinking recently about why some clubs seem to have higher local profiles than others. I’m not talking about the media, I mean local ‘visibility’ A few years ago (not sure when but post Covid) I made my first and only visit to Leicester. It’s not a bad place and parts of it are quite okay, but whilst there I saw absolutely no evidence of their football club. No one wearing shirts, no signs, no ‘graffiti’, no blue and white anywhere, nothing. It was like they don’t have a club.
Compare that to Burnley. People wearing shirts and various other clothing regarding the club, wall paintings, references to the club all over the place, even shops and businesses have their signs in claret and blue. I don’t live in Burnley but aren’t the bins even claret and blue (please feel free to tell me I’m wrong).
Does anyone else know of a club with such a high local profile? Newcastle springs to mind. Not sure where else.

Until very recently the Newcastle profile was pretty limited to small pockets and the immediate vicinity of SJP. Its much bigger now they are dazzled by corrupt money

Hilariously there was once a time (2022 i think) when I counted more Burnley shirts than Newcastle shirts in the Metrocentre Nandos. And it wasn't just one group. And I wasn't wearing one

I see Sunderland shirts all over the place locally. Especially the new kits. Increased since promotion was sealed, but still always been pretty visible

Our football club dominates the town whereas at Leicester it’s totally different. Even sport they have the rugby club, not far from the King Power.

The one club I often think is similar in the way it dominates its city is Sunderland.

Got a friend lives in Leicester, he says it has always been a rugby town.

I’m not a rugby fan at all but Leicester’s stadium suggests they are a biggish club.

Oh hang on, yes, Leicester Rugby club are massive in terms of Rugby. I’ve been there on a Friday night when they play and the City is far more taken over than when the football club play.

I walked past the rugby stadium a few years ago on the way to the King Power from the station and have also seen it from a distance. Looks impressive.

Blackburn Rovers and the town are both places of misery

Frankfurt is very similar to Burnley in that all you see anywhere is Black, red, and white and the Adler badge. A proper one club city

I’ve never been but I was on holiday in Majorca a few weeks ago (in June) and there were numerous Germans at our hotel. Quite a few were sporting Frankfurt shirts. I talked to a couple them and they are so proud of their team, they reminded me in many ways of Burnley fans. Passionate but not boastful. They didn’t come across as being in any way ‘entitled’ like the fans of many of the big clubs here.

PS. I also spoke to a guy wearing a Leeds shirt and he also was very humble. He actually apologised for their injury time goal that robbed us of the title and wished us all the best for the coming season. Really nice chap.

I've been in Ipswich a couple of times this week and seen lots of people wearing their club shirts, but unlike Leicester there's no local competition from other clubs/sports teams

I would agree on Ipswich - they sold a record number of shirts last season. Norwich is also a one club county and their colours are eveywhere…DL/Sland too?
