Hot Sauce

Post by karatekid » Tue Aug 12, 2025 7:38 pm

Close season throws up some pretty random threads so I thought I’d ask before Saturday. What is your favourite hot sauce? I love a bit of Franks red hot but I’m looking for a couple of alternatives to spice things up. Any suggestions?

Louisiana Hot Sauce

It's a fermented hot sauce akin to the more famous Tabasco Sauce but Louisiana has a far, far superior flavour profile and isn't quite as hot. I tried it just the once in America and now buy it in from Amazon.

If you're looking for actual flavour to accompany the heat, you really ought to get yourself a bottle.

Went on the amazon link and it eventually led me to 3.78 litres of Franks red hot for £18. You can have it on your corn flakes.

Baron's West Indian Hot Sauce from St. Lucia is my favourite.

Goes on anything and good to have at breakfast also on eggs.

Favourite? Well, depends what you're using it for doesn't it!

I've got at the moment...

Franks Red Hot, Habanero, Buffalo (Find Jalapeno if they still make it, makes amazing Mac and Cheese with a glug of that mixed in!)
Buldak 2x
Tingly Teds
Bibigo Hot Jang
Linghams
Sriracha (healthy boy brand)
Sweet Chilli Thai (healthy boy brand)
Texas Pete
Sweet Baby Rays Nashville Hot (shite!)
LKK chilli oil (does that count?)

Aside from that I've got about 30 random bottles of stuff you get in those gift packs from Matalan and TK Max at xmas.

Tingly teds is good a bacon butty, hot but still tasty, get a nice fruity taste through.

I'm not a big fan of Frank's, tastes a bit sour to my pallet.

Can't beat a bit of good ol' Tabasco it Chulola too

Tried loads over the years but now pretty much stick to

Mr Vikkis

https://www.mrvikkis.co.uk/product/hot- ... lli-sauce/

Tastes of chilli rather than garlic which many sauces add far to much of. Scotch Bonnet based and very hot.

Ah good. I've done a google and ASDA are still selling it! I only ever had it once from Morrisons and it was all discounted like it was being discontinued.

Gotta get some more of that!

I actually like Nando's Vusa.

African Birds Eyes, pretty hot, but a decent taste.

I have a fair old glut of hot chillis growing in a greenhouse and will probably try preserve in a sauce. Any recipes very welcome

As mentioned above I find sriracha too garlicky. Would be interested to see which ones of the ones mentioned on this thread are garlic free. Not that I don’t like garlic, but prefer my chilli sauce to taste of chilli.

hot sauce?

another americanism that has insidiously crept into our language.

it's chilli sauce ffs.

best: encona west indian original hot pepper sauce. it actually tastes of chillis but is versatile enough for virtually anything.

worst: anything by nandos. anything where the principle ingredient is water is pure trash and a triumph of marketing over substance.

If you are looking for a hot hot sauce the check out Daddy Cools range

They was at clitheroe food festival on Saturday and had lots of tester to sample and was doing a very good trade

Whilst there I did sample the one they claimed to be their hottest, i forgot the name now, and i must admit I have never had anything as hot as that ever!! If you do find it, just a word of advice and that is use very very sparingly!!

Re hot and spicy I got a chilli cc baked spud from Spud Brothers at Dumpdale FA cup game .I it was a change from the usual slightly spicy mince served in pubs.
I didnt realise eating it that would be the highlight of a poor day out.

Good shout from dressinggown - use it all the time.
Standard Tabasco is a staple.
Don't mind the Crucials range either.

I eat spicy most evenings, here's what I currently recommend;
Buldak x 2 or 3. Lidl sells it cheap sometimes.
Germano's Hot Sauce you'll be amazed at the depth of flavour and it'll go in anything. Never heard anyone say they didn't like it
Any of the Blair hot sauces if real heat iand flavour is your thing.
Sriracha can be hit and miss depending on brand. Flying Goose is my choice.
Germanos again.
Mrs Renfro's Reaper salsa- absolutely delicious.
One I tried a couple of weeks ago- Roskilly's Chilli sauce. Organic, and made on a Cornish farm, probably one of the nicest I've had.
Can't stand vinegar based sauces.
Ones to avoid- da Bomb- will burn your mouth off but not great for flavour. Mostly extract
"One drop at a f***ing time" - not as scary as it sounds,

I remember a few years back at work one of the lads was in the States and brought back something with 3 xxx on it and asked me if I wanted to try some as he knew I liked chilli .
I looked at the clear bottle and it was a deep red so I gave it a miss , now another lad said yer I will try it so he put a bit on the back of his hand and licked it .
I would say two seconds before it hit and ran to the toilet . He said he has no feeling in his mouth for over an hour no matter how much water he drank .
I still laugh thinking about it .

Years ago on Claretsmad one lad on here said he was out for the night and in a restaurant drank a bottle of chilli sauce for a bet at the table .
He said he was fine for a while then his guts were gurgling when he got home .
He said it was hot going down but much hotter coming out . Still has me in tears thinking about it .
