Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
What are the eligibility rules of this competition and is it possible we'll see some of the senior players who need game time getting a run out?

Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
Not sure, but the league we have gone into this season is strictly under-21 players and I suspect it could be the same as that for us.claretspice wrote: ↑Tue Aug 12, 2025 9:32 amWhat are the eligibility rules of this competition and is it possible we'll see some of the senior players who need game time getting a run out?

Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
My teenage years as a Claret were spent rivalling Rochdale as to who could remain in Div 4 the longest...(I loved those years btw)
Compare the Rochdale years to now...I never, ever would have believed it. All thanks to Jimmy Mullen, Stan Ternant and Sean Dyche in my eyes, (plus some very good people on the board over the years obvs).

Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
Does that mean we will not be allowed any over aged players in any U21 games? That is a shame as it serves as a way for players returning from injury to build fitness. Also allowing U21s to play with 2-3 senior players must surely aid their development.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 12, 2025 9:38 amNot sure, but the league we have gone into this season is strictly under-21 players and I suspect it could be the same as that for us.
I presume we will have to organise friendlies for the purpose of building fitness?
Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
So, we're playing with a young team against a National team. It will be a tough challenge for our boys but there will be many of those this coming season.

The club make absolutely no effort with the U21's. They never seem to share much info about fixtures.

I think Rochdale are taking too many risks at the back and we will catch them . Just to say I hate tippy tappy football .

We'd just started to make a little bit of progress up to the drinks break, let's hope they can keep it up.
Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
I agree the club is poor on the OS. The twitter academy page can be useful (not for U18s though).burnley007 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 1:06 pmThe club make absolutely no effort with the U21's. They never seem to share much info about fixtures.

Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
For those old enough to remember the 80's and early 90's,
I'm wondering if it makes you nostalgic to watch Burnley at Spotland like myself?
I'm pinching myself at times, remembering that this used to be our local derby.
The young lads are doing us proud against seasoned professionals.

Very young team today and I’ve seen that we have Charlie Adam back in the technical area with Andy Farrell.

interesting watch this in terms of the level we should be loaning our players out to. Getting lads to League 2 clubs looks like good work from our club

I've only watched the second half (time difference) but the lad who just scored has been our standout player

the lads out on loan or injuries too ?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 2:47 pmThat’s how it is in this cup but it’s a good experience for them. So many of our more senior under 21 players missing too.

they were talking about it on commentary, the kids are off school so they've made it a kids day with stuff going on outside the ground etc - really good, proper community club.

Re: ARTICLE: Spotland cup date for the under-21s
I obviously don't get to watch the U21's so I've no real reference point for their level - was that what you expected to see today ? I think we've done ok and there looks to be a few players there with plenty of ability.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 2:49 pmNot the loan lads - but no Balogun, Veevers, Vetro, Bevan.
