No, it wasn’t me Lip. You’re talking about the real heroes - the hundreds of Northern Soul DJ’s who have been discovering and spinning these brilliant sounds since the late 1960’s. Special memory goes to local DJ Mick Collins (RIP) who made a ‘very rare uptempo soul’ C90 cassette for me (and my sister) which was based on the music being played at the Twisted Wheel club in Manchester.

I had 2 c120 cassette tapes given to me in 1970 by a policeman from Rawtenstall called Philip Nowland. This was just as imports were hitting the scene. They were all Wheel records, with some stuff like Sandi Sheldon and Little Richard becoming more like the scene in later years. It contained all the Jackie Wilson, Okeh, Mitch Ryder, Hoagy Lands and 2 hours of amazing music.Mala591 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 11:10 amNo, it wasn’t me Lip. I remember you showing me a copy of Backstreet in the school corridor!

The late Mick Collins was a musician as well as a DJ - best remembered as The Hop's first DJ and mentoring the likes of youngsters Pat Carter and Keith Gunton. I knew him well and visited him at The Castle
