I really rate JBL, and I know it's far, far too soon in the season to be making judgement on players, but he's so much better as an impact player from the bench rather than starting.

Don't think Tchaouna was on long enough to give a rating, but he looks like a great prospect.

Improve 2nd half but looked way off it

Ekdal - 9 - won pretty much every challenge and read the game brilliantly
Esteve 8 - let’s hope it was just cramp
Hartman - 8 - comfortable on the ball. Looks a steal
Cullen - 9* - outstanding. Great goal and the assist was top drawer
Big Lesley - 8 - looks a good signing. Again, I assume cramp
Hannibal - 7 - gave the ball away cheaply at times but a real nuisance
Anthony 8 - assist and a goal - great stuff
Foster 8 - the foul that rules out his goal looked soft to me but need to see it again. A really good game though

A whole team that look composed on the ball. We have physicality we lacked last time round. Some really promising signs.

Dubravka 7 - Couple of good saves and very solid.
Walker 8 - really stepped it up in that last 25 mins when we needed that leadership. Played a role in the Antony goal.
Ekdal 9 - Man mountain today. Imperious in the air and didn't put a foot wrong.
Esteve 8 - Once again very good. Injured himself with that excellent last gasp interception. Puts everything on the line.
Hartman 7 - Didn't really get forward, but did some good work defensively.
Cullen 9 - Absolute stormer of a game. That pass for Antony's goal was unreal.
Ugochukwu 8 - Berge-esque. Don't think he misplaced a single pass or lost the ball once.
JBL 6 - first half he just couldn't get going at all. Second half he came out better.
Anthony 8 - cannot underestimate his defensive work too. took his chance superbly.
Hannibal 8 - They tried to niggle him early, but he kept it together and never gave them a minute. He forced so many errors from them.
Foster 8 - He worked tirelessly. His best performance for a long time for me.

I thought we were absolutely outstanding in the second half after a very flow first half. Cullen I have to give 10 out of 10 to after a top class midfield performance and then an amazing goal and assist.

Some fitness issues gave a little cause for concern though. Esteve and Ugochukwu looked like cramp but who knows.

I’ll post later but a lot of people look as though they thought JBL played at RWB today. He played as a winger, we clearly started with a 4 and only a 5 the last 20 minutes.

Three massive points. After a decent first half, we upped a gear in the second and outplayed Sunderland. Les looks big, strong and promising, he needs game time. Ekdal was great both in defence and link up play. Foster is really starting to show us what he can do. I’ve criticised Anthony for disappearing in games, today he didn’t, my mom.
We have some very tough games coming up but this is a confidence booster. Well done Scott Parker and his team.

Esteve 7 - one major error but Walker recovered, hope he is fit
Hartman 7 - steady and I hope he is emcouraged to be more adventurous
JBL 5 - inexplicable to start over Edwards and it made us impotent 1st half, I like him but he is half the player Edwards is and the Lazio lad is too young to start often
Cullen 8 - quiet 1st half but wonderful finish and good thereafter
Ugochukwu 8 - does the ugly stuff very nicely and looks a cracker
Hannibal 7 - huff and puff but very little end product so he makes us too one dimensional
Anthony 8 - another to start quiet but goal was fantastic and ran himself into ground
Foster 8 - superb, pace, power and finishing which was harshly ruled out. Well done Lyle.

Sonne 6 - the choice to Parker the Bus worked but Sonne is raw and doesn't seem comfy at this level
Laurent 7 - a mix of poor and excellent moments but vitally he was energetic

A solid win in the end but one I feared wouldn't happen until the goal. Sunderland look ragtag and may struggle. I supported Parker's choice of team apart from JBL in when I would pick Edwards 8 days out of 7. It just felt we needed trickiness in tight spaces and over the season the choice not to have this may cost us many times. But it is good to get a win.
