Another cup assist for Magic Mike

Post by Woodleyclaret » Wed Aug 27, 2025 6:57 am

Following on from his exploits v Reading in the FA cup Mike did it's gain creating the winner last night with an exquisite pass for Oli Sonne. Is this finally him coming good or another false dawn.He would be like a new signing if he cba.

Hard to tell whether Parker rates him and just being super careful with his integration, or he's miles off the reckoning and will be sold.

It's only Reading and Derby, but he probably touched the ball 10 times in those two games combined and made two goals. I can't think of another player we have who has the ability to pick a telling pass in tight spaces in the final third.

His value has plummeted, but we have in my opinion, a potential match winner from the bench at least. We'll be selling at the lows of his value because wherever he goes (if he goes), I think he'll be a real asset. Like several other players in the VK season, I don't think his limited number of games in the Premier league is indicative of his ability to play at the top level. Same would've gone for someone like Beyer but I doubt his body will let him find out either way unfortunately

We need to cut our loses and get him moved on. It hasn't worked out and it never will.
For all the money we made out of VK's signings, this one hasn't worked out

Is he not refusing to play now that we're back in the Prem? ;)

I’d love him to make a significant contribution this season, but I’m long past believing that to be likely.

There was a couple of clowns behind me last night who booed him onto the pitch and again when he went near the ball. The stifled boo as they realised he’d created the winning goal was pretty amusing though.

Probably best for everyone that he finds somewhere to make a fresh start, even if only on loan to begin with.

Sounds like he’s likely to go out on loan…

Would much prefer this over a transfer. He needs gametime and he looks in good shape so there's a good chance his value increases with a loan

I still don’t understand the Tresor situation and it’s not helped at all by Parker talking about him the way he does.

I remember Parker talking about facing him in Belgium etc I just don’t understand why you would loan him out for game time if you thought so highly of him? Surely he’d be an asset here?

I’d rather Parker just told the truth here, don’t say how great he is when your actions show the opposite.

You’d think he’d thrive in a side dominating possession somewhere. But it’s a big ask to put him in a side having to compete at their limits physically, every single game for 90+ minutes just to have a chance of getting something.

You can see his quality but we’re not going to be in the position of having a luxury player for the foreseeable.

I’ll just reiterate what I have said all along.

A fully fit and motivated Mike Tresor would be incredible. You can see from his very brief cameos the level of ability he has.

However until someone factually says what is happening here in terms of where he is at physically/mentally and emotionally then the saga just goes on. So many riddles! Why can we just not have a statement of honesty from either MT/SP or his agent?

Why the secrecy ?

He didn't look a luxury player off the ball last night. He closed down with a lot more intensity than Edwards for example. Even got into a shoving match at one point.

This idea of a luxury player is a bit odd. On the one hand. I understand you need players who graft and can do their bit defensively. But by luxury do we also mean creative? You need a mix and options. As Parker said, his quality is clear, he can unlock a defence and apparently he's been great preseason. There's going to be times when we're desperate for a goal, and we have someone who has proven at a high level he can make goals for fun. That's a luxury you want to have in your squad.

We've put in all this hard work to get him back to fitness, and now someone else gets the benefit of it. I find it really confusing. The only sense to me would be a loan till January with thr firm understanding that he comes back fit and ready to play a part for us.

The alternative is that Parker does/did want him but Tresor wants out. If Tresor has worked hard and been respectful about it, then it's easy to see why Parker would be complimentary and frame it as him needing game time. Rather than "we only want players who want to be here"

Then come out and say that

Don’t say he’s a brilliant player, he’s had a great preseason, list all his qualities then bring him on for the final 10 minutes in a reserve game and say “oh he’s probably going out on loan”

I think it's very obvious that he's an extremely talented player that needs game time that we can't risk giving him in the premier league.

Just like Edwards , we can't afford the space for his quality over a more defensive minded player

No dramas , he's just not ready

If he was refusing to play or any speculation was true ... he would be nowhere near coming on last night

If he was 100% fit , he wouldn't have come on for just 10 minutes

Certainly the most bizarre player scenarios I've seen at the club.

It's one of those where there are 2647 more questions than there are answers.

It would disappoint me after all this if he went on loan just when he finally looks to be fit and motivated. He clearly looks, to be a player who can create chances and we may never find out if he could improve on that first season in the PL

He has or is, still recovering from a serious illness.

He will be monitored carefully and his responses (health and fitness) to competitive football analysed.

His fitness won't and can't be scaled by usual return protocols, it will be a totally different and probably much longer process.

It would also suggest his appearance at Reading was too soon judging by his absence since and his reaction to the workload at the time.

The fact he made an appearance last night is a great sign he is back on schedule.

Got an early touch, then spent the next ten minutes searching for the ball. That’s not a criticism, I’m encouraged by it. He was making himself available, and looking for the ball despite not getting it too often.

Happy he’s back, if he is back. As someone else stated earlier, like a new signing. Let’s hope he kicks on.

What struck me last night was the first time he was on the ball he was taken out by a Derby defender. Had it been Benson he’d likely have been on the treatment table a month. Mike rubbed his knee got up and carried on.

I have no more real knowledge than anyone else on here offering opinions. I want to see good players playing for Burnley. What I saw last night is a player the other players still like and respect. The rest I leave to SP and his team

Not in the least comparing them obviously, but Messi talks about the importance of staying still sometimes and/or walking to let the space find you. He wasn't ever in a panic running left and right, he just tried to stay in holes behind the midfield and between defenders. Eventually he got that space and the ball.

I think this is exactly what I saw after the game last night. He was in consultation with the physio/fitness coach after everybody had left and then was instructed to do some runs. I was asked to leave so not sure how long he was out there for
