It’s going to be one busy deadline day.

Benson
Tresor
Delcroix
Worrall
Hladky
Churlinov

All these you could envisage moving on.
Does Amdouni need to be on that list - unless I've missed something.

A bit difficult to sell a player suffering a long term injury

I think Laurent is needed. We aren't blessed with lots of options in the centre of midfield and could be struggling for cover if we get any injuries or suspensions - even if we do sign Florentino Luis.
It might be that he wants to go and play regular football. I don't think SP would stand in his way, he deserves it.
Such a likeable player.

See the young Spurs centre back, Luka Vuskovic, has gone to Hamburg on loan. Seen him mentioned on here as a loan option for us but not sure if there was any links

And Tanganga from Millwall (was linked with us earlier in the window) has gone to Sheffield Utd. Good signing for them

The caveat being the bottom line that there has been no agreement, as yet, with the player
Wouldn't it be pointless coming to an agreement with Benfica if we hadn't already got encouragement from the player?

It wouldn't take much of an offer to make a good profit.
It would be sad to see him go, he's been an unbelievable servant for what we paid, and i still struggle to think some Stoke fans didn't rate him. Always gives 100%, and always with a smile on his face. I think if Laurent wants regular football he needs a move, but I'd be happy to see him stay.

If the rumours are true at the moment, re Luiz and mikautadze, it's possible given the squad we could end up with that none can expect regular football, and when I say that, I mean in the starting 11 every week, and even if those 2 don't come off, you'd think there's a couple of others that we'll go to. But to have a defensive midfield quartet of Cullen, Ugochukwu, Laurent and Luiz, given the quality in other area's would be stuff of dreams.

Whilst the Benfica fans don't seem upset at all about Luis leaving, he could be a player that really fits our position right now. Seems to absolutely excel defensively, and I imagine we're going to be on the defense more than not this year.

"Benfica fan here. Liability with the ball in his feet, good at tackling, recovering the ball, but shitty when he gets it. Opponents get 2-3 chances per match when they steal the ball because of his sloppy passing or handling.
I would wager with the premier league intensity that he’d do even worse"

"Benfica fan here, I would even sell him for €15M. He's elite at tackling, but apart from that, he's at best bang average at everything else. He adds less than our keeper when we are attacking, which is 80% of our games."

Sounds like a player best suited to a team that will spend most of their time defending. Which is exactly what he'll be doing if he joins

Laurent has waited his whole career for a stab at the Premier League, I think he’ll be more than happy to make the odd appearance from the bench for a season.

I’ve no opinion of him. I’d never heard of him until yesterday.

Just relaying what fans who have watched him for several years are saying. Most (not all) aren’t very complimentary.

He’s lost his way a little but still a major coup for a club like ours. I remember him being linked with Man City a couple seasons ago. The fact that reports are suggesting Marseille and Roma are also interested tells me he can’t be that bad!

Luis had the most tackles and interceptions (per 90) of any player in last seasons Champions League. Nearly top of blocks and clearances too. Not bad.

My understanding is 90% of Benfica’s games they are dominating, so his lack of ability on the ball to assist in the attack has led to slipping down the pecking order, and probably why some fans aren’t keen anymore (they’ve also signed a more progressive CM).

Exactly. It’s the same as if a fan of another club asked us about one of our players who was almost definitely leaving. We would hardly give glowing references unless it was one of our best players.

Just look at the reviews in here after we found out Egan-Riley wasn’t going to be staying

According to reports in France, Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Lyon to sign forward Georges

Mikautadze can also play on the left and also as a second striker too.

I don’t know who edits his Wiki page but Luis (.buyout clause €120m) has a playing style that “draws comparisons to Claude Makelee and N’Golo Kante!!

Fail to see why some fans want to come on here just to report that someone who may be joining us is no good. Do they get a kick about being the first to bring it to our attention and having very little to substantiate it ?. Its undermining our recruitment team. I think most of us can form our own opinion after half a dozen games. For me I am comforted that he has made over 110 performances for Benfica, and it would appear he is very capable of shielding our defence whether we play 4 or 5 there-the type of player we have not had since Joey Barton in my opinion.

That seems to be the modern way. Two DMs protecting the defensive backline. A boring but effective way to play.

I would find it really strange if Laurent is asking for a move especially from watching the media he has done stating how buzzing he is to finally become a Premier League player.

A bit of an assumption there, no guarantee that Cullen would be dropped.

NO it really isn't is it.
Why would Mainoo would come here to compete with someone for minutes, that's exactly the reason he's wanting to leave Utd.

Goodison News reporting that Everton are preparing a bid for Luís. They contradict the reports that say we have agreed a deal with Benfica. Exciting isn’t it?

Someone must have a mate who is a Benfica season ticket holder.
Funnily enough, I’m in a restaurant in Lisbon right now and I’ve just asked the waiter for his opinion. I quote word for word and he said “he’s absolutely dog egg”

I felt a frustration in the article that Everton had allowed us to move in on Luis

Probably means dogs B*LL***S
In more than one European language testicles are "eggs" rather than balls (a bit more geometrically accurate anyway)

Don't forget 'bad' means good these days - dog egg could actually mean 'amazing'

Wouldn't it be pointless coming to an agreement with Benfica if we hadn't already got encouragement from the player?
Burnley haven't said they have come to an agreement with Benfica and I don't think Benfica have announced it either

Plus, we've heard plenty of times before that a player did not fancy a move to a certain club even if fees were agreed

If Everton have since tabled a bid he may fancy that move more

Or, it could be stories invented by his agent to get him in the limelight before the transfer window ends

I admire your innocence in believing all that is written is fact

I hope he does arrive but not holding my breath until the club announces something
