Burnley haven't said they have come to an agreement with Benfica and I don't think Benfica have announced it either.
I admire your innocence in believing all that is written is fact
Two things here:
Burnley have never said they have come to an agreement until a player has actually signed, but I admire your innocence in thinking otherwise.
Show me where I said all that is written is fact.

Don't forget 'bad' means good these days - dog egg could actually mean 'amazing'
Dog egg basically means dog crap.

Suspect we were never in for him and that a claret and blue club may have been mentioned and someone guessed us.

It all seemed to be heading towards a quick conclusion this time yesterday, any updates anywhere?
It's gone quiet again. Hopefully just finalising details with the player?

My Benfiquista mate tells me this morning that dog egg means nothing at all in football or any other subject in Portuguese. He also tells me we are having our pants removed not just pulled down if we even pay half of that €24m.
He collects yellows for fun.

Your mate clearly knows more than our management about football...we should alert Parker to this immediately. God only knows how he got us into the Prem.

Having never seen him play, it's quite interesting to see that the consensus is that we've gone from signing a world beater, to someone who is "dog ****" in the space of 48 hours

About one every 6 games
But most in a league campaign is 8
So suggests he's not that prolific at picking up yellow cards

I would worry if we bought in a hard tackling CM into the team who was unable to get a yellow card from time to time. Weren't Browmhill & Cullen both getting close to double figures last season

What Benfica and Burnley need in midfield are probably very different. Not idea about whether we are getting him but if we are in for him he might be just what we need.

He’s the kind of player we need who can stifle counter attacks and break things up easily in order to allow us a little more freedom to attack.

I wouldn't pay much attention to what the Benfica fans say, there is a begrudging acknowledgement that his defensive statistics are elite in both the Champs league and in Portugal, but they bemoan his ability on the ball, lack of progressive play etc.
Someone said he had an awful pass rate at 86% which is actually okay for a player in his position.
I think there's a big difference between what Benfica consider a good technical player to be and what we do, I also think he'll be used for what he's good at if he signs.
No idea where he ends up but I think he'll do a decent job for someone, I hope it's us.

I think today confirmed we need a centre back. We looked shakes all game and had to bring Joe Worrall on at Old Trafford. Bit odd that he's ahead of Tuanzebe in the pecking order.

Humphreys probably won’t be up to speed until November so keep him in house and make a decision in January window.

If Estève is out for any reason then Humphreys is 100% taking his place. He’s a really good player.

And if he isn't? Then he's wasted a year of development sat on the bench.

That doesn't make any sense. If we go off your logic, then we can loan or sell every other goalkeeper out as Dubravka might not get injured. And if he doesn't, we've just had Weiß and Hladký sat on the bench for nothing.

He’s our only left sided centre back after Steve. He’d probably start at left back ahead of Pires as well. Imagine paying £12m and then shipping him out on loan. Just can’t see it. Any road, this is the wrong thread for this. Soz!

Crying out for a proper right sided centre half and a real quality attacking option.
That 2nd goal today is just unforgivable from Ekdal.

That's not the same is it. Weib is a keeper and has just joined so needs time to settle. Humphries needs first team football and if we get another centre back it probably makes sense to give it him.
Similar to Ekdal last season, it'd have been nice to have him on the bench but it was better for his own circumstances that he went out on loan and played.

At the minute it feels like we’re over compensating for Ekdals lack of legs and it’s leading to far too many square pegs in round holes. Walkers not a centre half, Brun Larsens not a wing back and Hannibal isn’t a right winger.
Dubravka
Walker NEW Esteve Hartman
Luis Ugochukwu Cullen
NEW Foster Anthony
Looks a better more natural fit to me

It’s not scapegoating to point out facts, go and watch that second goal back it’s a long punt from their keeper. Proper schoolboy stuff from Walker and Ekdal

It wasn’t all on Ekdal for the second goal. Bruun Larsen was really poor before it got to Ekdal.

So the position big Les is playing then. But Big Les seems very strong going forwards, so perhaps bringing in Luis will allow him to go further up the field?

I know absolutely nothing about Luis that I haven't read on here.
Given that, do we really need a midfield player who apparently is dogshit with the ball? Especially given the rumoured fee.

What amazes me is that people don’t see Lesley a Luis or another midfielder being able to play together AND alongside Cullen in a 3 .
We have for the majority of our time in the Premeir league struggled in the midfield .

If we get a towering centre half to partner Esteve it may allow Worrall to go on loan or move permanently. Ekdal is a competent back up, and Humphreys provides cover at CH but more importantly cover and competition for Hartman who looked exposed today. WE really do have a bloated squad
