England v South Africa - 3rd ODI

Post by ClaretTony » Sun Sep 07, 2025 3:23 pm

England batted and scored 414/5.

Tons for Bethell & Root and an entertaining 60+ from Buttler.

Theyll be lucky to get 180.
Archer a class above the rest. If we can keep him for for the winter...? Bowling at 90+mph and makes it look effortless.

Been watching it all day. Young Bethell’s innings was a bit special, should he go to Australia for the test series?

Looked good today but it’s one innings. He will go to Australia though, highly rated by those at the top.

Yep. I was lucky enough to see him live at headingley on Tuesday. When he's like this, there is nobody better. Looks like he could bowl all day....

Been badly managed this summer though. Apart from the Hundred he's barely played any cricket.

South Africa’s LOWEST ever ODI score is 69. That ignominious total might get beaten today…

Hadn't realised that. Thought they were just playing a few T20s against Ireland.

Inept, brainless batting at Headingley.

SA fresh off a series v Australia whilst little prep time for England players as 2 days after hundred final . Also not playing much 50 over cricket between series if any

Agreed, you could argue we've improved as the series went on, we were only a hit away from winning the second game, and 15 overs out were in a position where we should have.

It's no wonder we were caught cold, some of the players joined their teammates a day before the first game, having played that hideous 100 for 4 weeks. International one day cricket is now second to last in the pecking order, behind County crickete I'm afraid.

The worrying thing is that with greed being displayed by the ECB I think they put the turd that is the !00 above Test Cricket.

You can guarantee that a final of the 100 will never clash with an England game. They have basically ended the 50 over domestic trophy and wouldn't be surprised to see the T20 tournament be next.

Was reading somewhere that if any of the Test players are involved in the Hundred final next summer they'll basically have to go straight to a Test match that starts about 2 days later.
And with the ECB flogging franchises off there will no doubt be more pressure to have as many big names involved in the hundred as possible. What an absolute mess the ECB have created.
