868 mile round trip for supporters
Last season Carlisle Utd were relegated and Truro City promoted.
They played each other yesterday. A round trip of 868 miles for Truro team and supporters.
Wonder if this is a record within England?

and credit to Carlisle, they gave every visiting supporter a free pie and brew and a note thanking them for making the long journey

A lot of miles but a million of them from the PL and that's absolutely NOT a bad thing. However big the cliché, football transcends the game.
Fair play to the fans who travelled, to Carlisle and to the two clubs for playing in a league involving such distances.

How many actually travelled?

Re: 868 mile round trip for supporters
Just googled it and it's reported to be 78.
And yes, it is a record for now, beating the previous longest (832miles) of Newcastle to Plymouth [and vice versa], but as a poster pointed out, Truro to Gateshead will set a new record in November as it's about 930 miles.

Their nearest away day looks to be Yeovil, which is nigh on two and a half hours away. They also have Hartlepool to go to as well as Gateshead and the Carlisle trip, that they’ve just done.
That’ll be some miles clocked up and some proper commitment to the cause, from their supporters.

I believe that over 100 turned up.
Most living within less than a couple of miles from the ground.
Fair play though.

In my long lost youth (probably mid 1960's) it was normal to have fixtures at Christmas and Easter where they played the reverse the next day. Carlisle got the short straw one year playing Exeter away and then at home on successive days. Not as far as Truro admittedly but quite a distance.

I remember going to watch Burnley win at Yeovil when our Ings and Vokes combo was in full free scoring mode .They had proper old school turnstiles and great fans.

Could you not charter a plane? By the time you pay out for a coach it can't be silly money?

Re: 868 mile round trip for supporters
I would say charting planes is way off . A lot depends on how much time the plane is on the tarmac .
Long story but a few Irish lads looked into hiring a plane from Dublin to Yeravan for an international it came in something like €28,000 and that was back 10 years ago .The Dutch did hire one for a game but someone was in that business, but you need 280 people all in no drop outs .

Or am I still half-cut?
