Burnley’s youngest full international

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Sep 09, 2025 10:09 pm

Yesterday, first year scholar Luca Scanlon came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute for Gibraltar against the Faroe Islands. He came on for his older brother James.

I’m sure he must be our youngest ever full international.

That will increase his value, when the likes of City, Utd and Lpool prise him from us.

I think Luca is now also Gibraltar's youngest-ever full international.

An article from 2012 said that Cameron Howieson (New Zealand) would become Burnley's youngest international, and he was 17 at the time, so yeah, Scanlon is probably the record holder now.

Is gkr the colour of the Gibraltar National Football Team? Is it a type of blue?

Currently playing over here in the A-League for Auckland FC.
Has been back in pro football just 1 season, after a few years playing at semi-pro level.

Was with us maybe 3 or 4 years after Lafferty if I recall correctly

Does the fact that he has signed a contract with us make him more difficult to get poached?

Cameron was a scholar at Burnley from 2011 to 2013 and then two years as a pro. After a year at St Mirren he returned to New Zealand and spent some years playing for Auckland City before moving to new club Auckland to play in the Australian league.

He can't sign a professional deal until his 17th birthday which won't be until July next year - but he's currently on a two year scholarship with us.

I came across this a while ago
https://aleagues.com.au/news/cameron-ho ... fessional/

Seems he moved back to Auckland, played semi-pro (Auckland didn't have a pro team at that time, the team he was playing for was the one that went to the Club World Cup recently) but still got some international caps and then when Auckland got a pro team he moved there.
