Those songs in your head

Post by Dressinggown » Wed Sep 10, 2025 3:14 pm

Admittedly, I'm a bit unusual in the head department, but does anyone have these completely annoying bloody songs ringing round their heads all day or even worse ?

I have them. But they aren't ones I even like.

"I can't find this feeling anymore" by REO Speedwagon, keeps cropping up.

What on earth is that all about ?

Do you get the whole song or is it cut off part way through

More of a repetitive of the same chorus.

Never been a fan of Bob Marley but bits of his songs often occur and re-occur in my head. No logical explanation for it.

REO Speedwagon. Ha ha. Good luck with that one.

When I was driving in I had 'Hanging on the Telephone' - but not Blondie, the original version, and I've no idea who it was.

It’s long been called an earworm.
I used to run to Jesus Christ Superstar and Davys On The Road Again. They be in my head for hours after I’d finished.
Caught a flight out of Cork yesterday, plane next to us had Eidelweiss plastered all down the side. Guess what I had in my head after that, nightmare.

"Moving to New York" by the Wombats has been a recent one.

To be fair, it's not as crap as most.

During a recent GP appointment, for something unrelated, I queried this symptom.

His response was that he heard "So True" by Spandau Ballet for most of his waking hours.

Often it’s the last song I listen to before going out but one that drove me mad for ages was Roy Orbison’s Penny Arcade after our second friendly visit to Ibrox.

We share the same earworm!! Never stopped hearing it during the pandemic! Love the clashing chords in the chorus.

To go back to the original topic, this is the single that I usually have in my head:

Meet Me On The Corner (Lindisfarne)

I’m absolutely certain that with the right lyrics, this would make a belting terrace anthem

Baby, I Love Your Way by Big Mountain.
Then for no other reason than a tenuous connection, Frampton's talk tube guitar from Show Me The Way chirps in.
This can go on for hours especially if I'm on the hills walking my dogs.

Being In possession of a working fully functional active brain it filters out what to contain & what to expunge & more importantly the processing side. It's far from empty but reliable when called upon if needed. It's a gift I guess to just block & forget unnecessary stuff.

There is a groove metal band called "In Search of Sun" that we saw support a band that we like called South of Salem earlier in the year. If you like that kind of stuff, they are superb

There is a track called Ariel that is absolutely lodged in both myself and my wifes brains and has been for months. Barely a day goes by without one of us launching into the chorus.

Funny that this topic has come up today as for the last bloody week I've had the line "Gonna buy a tank and an aeroplane" from John Entwistle's 'My Wife' going through my head on what seems like a permanent loop for reasons I can't quite fathom.

The main problem seems to be those bloody tracks that you particularly dislike.

And then you have to resort to making moaning sounds on public transport or handing in your notice at work.

I get some real stinkers in my head, tunes I just really don’t like. Fortunately I can’t remember any recent ones, however Claret Tony has beggared that up by mentioning the awful Penny Arcade.
