Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
no chance Selles survives for much longer
Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
They should have just given it to Dyche. Clubs overthink things sometimes. He's a no brainer really.
Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
How Selles got that job I’ll never know.

Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
Godfrey 'showed he cared' by kicking a few players.
That was embarrasing for The Blades.

Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
I do feel for the Sheff Utd fans. They were odds on for promotion towards the end of the season and blew it big time. Then losing out in play the offs to a team who finished with 14 less points is gauling and now they look to have fallen apart completely.
Nobody could have predicted this when we were neck and neck with them towards the end of last season. If it was the other way round half our lot would be suicidal by now

One of the silliest stories of the summer. Sheffield United needed stability. Wilder should have stayed.

Embarrassing for the owners but better to swallow your pride and make the right decision now.

I think it’s more that the AI recruitment pushers which led to Wilder going no longer have as much influence.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Sun Sep 14, 2025 10:00 amEmbarrassing for the owners but better to swallow your pride and make the right decision now.

Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
Bringing Wilder back for a third stint would be very odd.
He did a good job overall last season, but let’s not forget he appeared to lose the plot towards the end of last season. From memory a lot of their fans thought he was at fault for their loss of form at the crucial point last season. Parker and Farke both did jobs on him in the big games.
You have to separate your feelings about a club legend and the desire to keep looking backwards for answers.

This exactly!! Wilder bears some responsibility for this mess, when calm heads were needed, odds on to go up he went batsh1t crazy at everyone & anyone and it all fell apart, and that’s 100% on him. Now he’s going to come back all smiles like nothing happened.

Agree. He lost the plot a bit. A Watford fan told me his post match interviews at the end reminded him of his time there. Blaming anyone and everyone, but taking no personal responsibility
Still. Selles had to go. An absolute shambles yesterday

This is all down to new owners thinking they can bring in their own daft ideas

Sacked by Sheffield Utd and Chris Wilder rumoured to go back there.

Re: Ruben Selles
I'd be considering a bet on Sheff U to get promoted if Wilder takes back over. As crazy as it sounds with the position they are in, I think he could still get them into the playoffs.
Re: Ruben Selles
Bizarre appointment in the first place. Wilder should’ve never been sacked.

Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
Wonder how long it’ll be before they remember why he was punted on the previous two occasions (and by Watford and Middlesborough inbetween).
If Sheffield United havent improved considerably by January, what then? Does he get sacked again or are they now afraid to sack him for fear of looking even more ridiculous?
What a weird series of decisions that boardroom have made.

Sensible decision, they had one awful week and a bad 20 minutes at Wembley - it was bonkers to sack him in the first place.

There’s some truth in that, but in the 7 games they played against Sunderland, Leeds & us, they won one and lost six.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 4:58 pmSensible decision, they had one awful week and a bad 20 minutes at Wembley - it was bonkers to sack him in the first place.
It wasn’t just a bad week. They didn’t turn up whenever they played the best teams.

Sky are reporting he's signed a three year deal. Paid off a few months back then brought back, he must be laughing all the way to the bank

Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
Was it that they didn't turn up or that both Leeds and Burnley were better than them? The one they should have won was Wembley but Wilder had them defending after the goal instead of going for the jugular.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:04 pmThere’s some truth in that, but in the 7 games they played against Sunderland, Leeds & us, they won one and lost six.

Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
They weren't as good as us or Leeds, don't think it was them not turning up. As for Sunderland, the one they won they were fortunate to win although they probably should have got something when they were beaten at the SOL and they definitely should have won at Wembley. But good appointment or not today, they should never have replaced him with Selles.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 5:04 pmThere’s some truth in that, but in the 7 games they played against Sunderland, Leeds & us, they won one and lost six.

To go back to Wilder is essentially an admission that you haven’t got the first clue what you’re doing and you’re scared shitless of appointing another dud.
This lot haven’t invested in Sheffield United to languish in the Championship though, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens if Wilder hasn’t got them back in play off contention by Christmas.

Will be interesting to see what happens. They’ve made squad changes which have probably left them with a non-Wilder type of group. Will they allow him a window in Jan if things aren’t going well?agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 6:55 pmAgree with that.

Not sure. They certainly be hoping he spends it more wisely than the £10m+ they spent on Cannon last January.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Sep 15, 2025 7:10 pmWill be interesting to see what happens. If my wife kept binning me off for someone else I wouldn't keep going back!
Re: Wilder back at Bramall Lane... Again
Last year's "we've got two points more really" will be this years "We're averaging X points a game since I've been in charge"
Re: Ipswich v Sheffield United
Third time lucky for Wilder?
From rock bottom to Premier League in 40 matches.
Probably worth a cheeky punt.

....He's already got the imaginary table up in his office with them sitting on the 15 points they would have won if he was in charge from the start!

I wonder what their odds are on promotion now, even if it's via the playoffs. Do bookies give odds for that or is it automatic promotion only?
