Superb performance exactly what I have been looking for in a Parker PL side. Discipline, press, energy and with a threat on the break.

Florentino was superb when he came on. Really happy with that but as Alex Ferguson said to Cantona when he Kung fu kicked a Palace fan ‘Hannibal you can’t go around doing that son”. But we all eff up - chin up son - there is a long way to go.

Dubravka made a couple of excellent saves, but mom goes to Hartmann, some of his tackling was excellent, thought him and Esteve had our left really well protected, but Walker did an excellent tackle in the first half in our box, which was absolutely brilliant, couldn't have asked any more of the lads today, they gave their all, unfortunate handball, but go again next Saturday and I think that is very winnable, if Oliver hadn't given the penalty, there was a back up plan VAR ;)

Sickening result, i didn't see the match so won't score, but the players must be gutted. I hope someone shows them this thread to see how much their efforts were appreciated.
We won't play Liverpool every week, it offers so much hope for the season ahead.

Dubravka - 8. Literally nothing to save. Claimed well and punched at the right time

Walker- 8. Got done by gakpo a few times
Laurent- 9. Quietly effective in a back 3
Ekdal- 9. Superb
Esteve- 9. As above
Hartman- 10. For an attacking full back had Salah in his pocket for all of it

Cullen- 9. Captain fantastic
Les- 7. Just a stupid challenge to make on a yellow with the touch as bad as it was

Anthony- 9. Runs and runs and runs
Foster- 9. As above gives so much to the team
Tchouana- 9. Think he was unlucky to get hooked when he did

Florentino- 8. Will be a superb signing
Hannibal- 5. Genuinely not because he gave the penalty away but felt as though he was a bit like a headless chicken when he came on. We’d been so disciplined but he was out of position so many times when playing right mid.
Worrall- 7
Broja. Not on long enough
Laurent was mainly playing right wing back. Think he occasionally dropped into the middle when they needed a bit of height but it was mainly Walker as the third centre back

Dubravka 9 - excellent, solid, and, at times, spectacular
Walker 9 - had some genuine world class moments and is a better and more solid right back than the champions possess (though not a better RWB)
Ekdal 8 - defended very well indeed
Esteve 9 - one minor error aside when overcommitting upfield, he was outstanding
Hartmann 9 - superb against his old manager and long time mentor, had Salah well marshalled
Laurent 9 - extra mark for being out of position at RCB and didn’t look out of place, a bit odd why he was there though and not Worrall
Cullen 8 - ticked it over well but his size is a disadvantage and we saw the future when Florentino came on
Tchouana 7 - energetic but couldn’t make many inroads
Ugochukwu 7 - the red was unfair, I thought the first won the ball first and the second was a foul, no more
Anthony 7 - also couldn’t get going forwards but was diligent defensively
Foster 8 - ran himself into the ground

Hannibal 6 - I can’t be too harsh, why turn his back? That caused the problem. But it was a minor error.
Florentino 9 - I saw two tackles that were among the best I have ever seen for Burnley. This guy is the real deal. A colossus.

A day for huge pride, hope, heart ripping disappointment, anger and inevitability. Not a day for criticism.

All the errors were very minor ones that were nothing in the context of the Herculean efforts in the game. Hannibal could have faced up the ball, and stood outside the box. Parker could have taken Lesley off when on a yellow, as Liverpool did. But minor, minor things.

The real issue is that the league is one of the worst in world football, a horrid league full of injustice and rules designed to favour the big sides. From Select Group refs on first name terms with elite teams, to harsh penalty interpretations that favour the (often attacking) bigger clubs, to FFP favouring the huge, to the microscopic VAR reviews (or lack of them if it would help us), to the new 8 second rule, to the huge bench, to the tolerated diving and exaggerating. The point being, not all of this will hurt us in every game, but something will, it feels inevitable and boring.

So we did super in that context. Special shout out to Florentino, Hartman and Walker, who didn’t look at a lower level than Liverpool. Those three signings give us a real chance.

Excellent defensive performance from the entire 11 and Florentino when he came on - he’ll be starting in no time. Make no mistake, Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world and they needed a bit of naivety on our part and a harsh last minute penalty to beat us.

Dubravka 9 a couple of routine saves, the rest was good punching

Walker 9 assured as you’d expect, vital signing

Laurent 9 highly unfamiliar position, huge props to him

Ekdal 10 honestly thought he was faultless. Sitting so deep is perfect for him.

Esteve 9 just shaded by Ekdal for mom

Hartman 9 Salah’s only impact on the game was taking the penalty

Cullen 9 presumably taken off feeling a problem, otherwise it was a ridiculous decision

Ugochukwu 7 first yellow isn’t even a foul but once on the card he was obviously limited and sliding in later on gave Oliver exactly what he’d been waiting for.

Tchuana 7 put the yards in and had a few nice moments, like the backheel down the line

Anthony 8 should really have made Allison work early on but him and Foster worked well together on the break

Foster 9 another excellent performance with understandably limited chances up top

Florentino 8 the sort of player we’ve not really had before, a win it and give it type; him, Cullen and Les will be a good 3

Hannibal 4 lucky not to get a card for dumping Szobozlai on his arse about 5 mins after the ball had gone before he lost us a vital, deserved point. It’s harsh on him as it’s booted at him from about 5 yards away and we shouldn’t be giving pens for that but we all know they do - Oliver had almost blown before it had hit his hand.

A choker but one that we need to use to galvanise us.

Dubravka 9 Gave the defence confidence
Walker 9 Assured and canny.
Ekdal 9 solid
Esteve 10 Supreme in every aspect
Laurent 9 solid and competitive
Hartman 9 Classy
Tchouana 9 Threat
Cullen 9 Threw his body in everywhere
Ugochukwu 9 Victim of over zealous referee
Foster 10 - defence, attack, threat. Excellent
Anthony 9 Ran and ran. Tried so hard to get ir create a goal

Hannibal 8 Turned his back. Not a good Sean Dyche look. Cost 1 pen
Florentino 9 Seamless replacement for Cullen

Heroes all

Dubravka 9. A very assured performance. A couple of routine saves and one ‘for the camera’. Good punching. Overall surprisingly little to do

Walker 8. Cool calm and collected. Unsurprisingly he had quite a handful with Gakpo , but more often than not came out on top. The importance of his experience and general nous cannot be overestimated

Laurent 9. Masterstroke from Parker. Picked to do a job which he did admirably

Ekdal 10. Wow! Yes the set up suited him but he was absolutely brilliant

Esteve 9. I thought that was his best performance of the season so far

Hartman 9 Got done a couple of times but because of his assured performance Liverpool posed very little threat on their right until the 94th minute!

Tchouana 8. A very combative display

Cullen. 9. Really got stuck in and was his usual neat and tidy self. Am pretty sure he was subbed after picking up a knock a few minutes before

Les 7. Did Ok but still doesn’t look quite up to full speed yet. The sending off was ridiculously harsh as both bookings were marginal. In his defence he did get a first touch on the ball both times. McAllister made a massive meal of the first one

Anthony 8. Did well overall. Up against the very very best he’s fractionally short on pace and his decision making when in good positions isn’t quite there. But that’s nit-picking

Foster 9. Great shift from Foster and I think he is learning how to use his strength without giving away too many free kicks

Hannibal 8. Unlike others I thought he did pretty well when he came on. His roving around did give us more of an outlet and he held the ball well. Don’t start me on the penalty. Would that have been given as handball anywhere else on the pitch? Frimpong whacks the ball towards him from close range, he makes an involuntary movement, which unfortunately makes his body bigger, and he is hit on the elbow. He should have avoided doing that but it is insane that the laws mean that the ref can give a penalty in that situation, which when it is in favour of a big club they will automatically do. Does anyone think we’d have got a last minute penalty at Anfield for that?

Luis 7. Looked good. One brilliant telescopic tackle

Couldn't agree with this more, the injury time play was weird, there was an uncomfortable inevitability about Liverpool being gifted a get out of jail free card, despite them running out of ideas. The soft second yellow for Lesley, the push in the back on Hartman in which he gave a corner, then the throw near the Bob Lord which Laurent won, (but the lino gave the other way), then the instant penalty decision, it just felt everything was gearing towards it, and it leaves a really nasty taste in the mouth. All we can do it put in the effort we did yesterday and be competitive, and the crowd will back them till the end.

Les's sending off was ridiculously harsh. The first tackle was definitely bad, if unintentional, but the second was nothing, barely a free kick. He was going down as soon as he saw Hartmann was getting the ball first.
I would say though, on both occasions he went sliding in, and I stated on the transfer thread of his highlights, that most tackles he ended up on his backside. As kids I was always told to stay on your feet, a lesson he needs to learn, as the referees will definitely punish him for the sake of his badge if nothing else. If you read the game there's no need to go diving in.

I’ve waited til today and rewatched the whole game on tv again before giving my ratings....I was too gutted yesterday to do it.
Dubravka 8 I feel safer with him in goal than James Trafford
Walker 8 got beat on the bye line a couple of times but overall impressive
Ekdal 9 immense first half and did some excellent man to man marking when Etikete came central
Esteve 9 immense, he should not have been on a losing side
Hartmann 9 his best game for us, everywhere in defence
Tchuano 7 didn’t get chance to get forward much but was fine when he did, worked hard
Laurent 7 played mainly as a third centre back
Cullen 8 did as well as he could against a very strong Liverpool midfield
Hugo 8 a big presence for us in midfield, the ref couldn’t wait to give him a second yellow to send him off
Anthony 6 he was supposed to be our main outlet going forward but gave the ball away 16 times in 24 touches.
Foster 8 gave everything for the cause, never stopped harrying their defence but got no real service from our central and wide midfielders
Luis 7 very good debut with some great interceptions. Looks good for the future
Hannibal 5 he was on the pitch for 35 minutes and touched the ball 4 times, the last time with his hand in the area. He stood like a statue just inside the box then turned his back with his arm out...stupid. Why didn’t he try to close down Frimpong and come towards him outside the box..he’s a midfielder that’s his job

A fantastic defensive performance by the back five and Cullen and Hugo. They gave everything for the team and looked devastated when Hannibal handled the ball. Midfield never got going forward and they were wasteful when we did venture forward. Upfront Foster never stopped but got no service.
If we hadn’t naively given those two late penalties away we would be in the top half of the league with those extra points...I’m still so frustrated and disappointed with our results against two very strong teams in our last two games. We can definitely stop up but in the PL you have concentrate fully for the 90 plus minutes. Parker got his tactics spot on.

I haven't posted before because I live In Australia and watch the games live on tv (except for twice a year visits to the Turf) which isn't the same as being there, but I just had to post on this game (Hi Tony!) because we were magnificent and everything we love about Burnley - commitment, bravery, work ethic, pride in the shirt. It was missing under Kompany because it was all about him but it's back in spades under Parker who has done a fantastic job with us - he understands the need to adapt our play to different challenges. Shout out to Alan Pace for great recruitment. People who called us boring don't understand football.

Dubravka 9 - another excellent recruit. Great at Newcastle, unlucky to be reserve to Pope. Calm and gives confidence to everyone.
Walker 9 - still quick but it's his experience and tactical nous that is brilliant and will keep us up.
Ekdal 9 - doing really well after his long lay-off.
Esteve 9 - fabulous player - keeping him was a tremendous boost.
Hartmann 9 - this lad is very, very good.
Tchaouna 8 - worked hard, very strong.
Laurent 8 -worked very hard and very good in a strange position for him.
Cullen 8 - was exhausted when he was taken off. Florentino will be a help for him
Ugochuwu 8 - again a very good signing big, strong, hard working. Unlucky to be sent off, second yellow was soft.
Anthony 8 - good touches and worked very hard but gave the ball away a bit.
Foster 8 - strong and gave it everything on a thankless day for a forward.
Florentino 8 - this lad will be a star this season. Looks a class above and what we have needed since losing Berger.
Hannibal 5 - not a fan and not just in this game - runs around like a lunatic but achieves little and always on the verge of doing something silly. Penalty was mindless - stands just inside the area, marking no-one, turns his back and sticks his elbow in the air! Face the ball and keep your arms down or get outside the area.
Now lets beat Forrest! UTC!
