Boundary Mill

Post by mikeS » Fri Sep 19, 2025 2:52 pm

Christmas stuff out at Boundary Mill now. Tinsel, baubles the lot. Turkey sandwiches coming soon.
Last seasons 96 Burnley Shirts on sale for £25.
Couple of rails full so no need to rush.
Parking aplenty.
A Pensioners paradise.

Those unhappy at the extra walk round the turf would happily spend all day walking round here.

What is the point with putting the Christmas stuff out? Not the middle of December yet.

I was in our local “The Range” in late August and they’d already put out Halloween costumes etc, when I spoke to the lady at the till I mentioned it was August and the sun was still cracking the flags, she said it’s crazy we’re putting Christmas stock out next week.

I wouldn't do either by choice.
I'd be very happy spending all day walking up hills and mountains in the Yorkshire Dales, but I might not be happy at being forced (unnecessarily) to walk an extra 10 / 12 minutes in the pouring rain to get to my car when we've just lost to a bad VAR decision in the final minute and it's the middle of winter.

Not the whole day, but my good lady and I once spent four hours doing that... Only the once mind, while she still goes two or three times a year, that's now with her sister.

One of those options would be from choice.

£1.50 for a large Mr Whippy ice cream at Boundary Mill, just shows how much these other ice cream merchants are ripping people off with their £3 50 /£4 prices.

I spoke to mate who works in retail about putting Christmas stuff out so early. He linked it the upcoming budget and that retailers were trying to capitalise prior to this…..don’t know what truth is in it though

When I was about 25 I went to Boundary Mill with my girlfriend at the time. After about an hour I went and sat on one of the benches they have/had near the front of the shop next to an old chap.
He asked me 'how long have you been in here then lad?'
'About an hour', I said, to which he replied, 'You're lucky. I was your age when I came in.'

The September Christmas tat thing has been around for a few years. Last year I was in a Home Bargains type of store, the same week after the schools had gone back, and they had Christmas stuff on their shelves.
