I don’t think I’ve ever heard a player’s name pronounced in as many ways. We’ve had Tuna, Choowana, Choonia, Choo-ah-ny…and many more.
It’s Chow-na
If we ever find a song for him, can we use his proper name?

Well in our house we have named him "Tissue" as apparently at my age I need to borrow teeth to pronounce his name! Yet alone remember it each week.
In midfield we also have Big Dave thank heavens I know who Les is. Don't even get me started on last years Stoke Josh.......Josh.... and Josh

This thread reminds me of when Chris Iwolumo was playing for us and a lass sat in front struggled with his name and called him Chris Aluminium ... Chris has been Aluminium ever since (even now when he is punditising on TV)

Not football related, but I recently learned the word ‘segue’ is not pronounced the way I always assumed.

Don't tell me. You went on Youtube to watch a few goals and suddenly, after a few 'related' clicks later, find yourself mouthing the correct pronunciation to segue.

Someone admitted on Bluesky, embarrassed, that they said it in a meeting and then found out afterwards it wasn’t ‘seeg’ but ‘seg-way’ and I was all ‘whaaaaaaastttt?’

I've always believed it was pronounced seg-U. Seg-way sounds more like the French pronunciation.

I believe you pronounce it the same way as Peter Gabriel's favoured transport:

Needs simplifying like Tendayi Darikwa ending up as Derek . Presumably any song would naturally be Louuuuummmmmm…

It's basic respect to pronounce someone's name correctly. Good post by the OP.
