Mentioned this on comms

Premier league defenders to score 2og in a game

Jamie Carragher v Manchester United
Michael Proctor v Charlton
Wout Faes v Liverpool
Craig Dawson v Everton

Can also add Jonathan Walters v Chelsea

However well Laurent has played this season, I can't see how a side like us can afford not to start or play Ugochukwu. I suspect Parker feels he is the only one of our midfielders who can drop into the back four but I suspect Luis could fulfil this role as well as offering more through his greater pace. I also think taking Cullen off made us weaker today. As I said earlier coming away if we had kept it to 3-1 would have been a good result, but we gifted them the last two and almost three but for Dubravka's save

Can’t believe fans are slagging Esteve and Ekdal off playing against a beast like Haarland ,Doku is as fast as **** and we held our own for over a hour ,turning point was bringing JBL on as he’s not offering anything going forward and tracks back less than Edwards ,the way Hannibal played the other night I would have brought him on for Tchaouna .

Onwards and upwards. Of our next seven games, there are five I think we can sensibly go into expecting to get something out of. We’ve had the worst start (fixtures wise) of any of the promoted sides and we’ve not made a complete hash of it. Now for the rest.

I like Parker but he sacrificed a League Cup run for a 5 - 1 thrashing today. Not looking a very smart on his part.

He might aswell have gone full strength against Cardiff and put the reserves out today.

Only watched a bit of the game (20 mins either side of half time) so can't really comment on the match, but feel like SP has to get Les, Florentino and Cullen into the side and yes, that probably means going to a back 4.

I like three at the back... some times (Glasner/Palace play it fantastically well) but you're giving up a lot of control in the middle of the pitch and face a lot more coming back your way, if you cant stick to a striker, even if it is Erling Haaland and give them space in the box, then it's a total waste of time.

For me, we have to find someone to partner Esteve in a back four and play our three in midfield... I genuinely believe that together, they are good enough to avoid being overrun in the PL and give us a stronger foothold in games.

I guess we have to stomach it for a season for the good of the club. It can be a bit soul destroying though at times.
It's not about the result, just look at Parker when we score - just stands there and can't celebrate because of VAR. It's not for me.

Positives from todays game

Talksport said the 5-1 scoreline flattered Man City.
We managed to score in open play.
2 of their goals were OG's
They have broken the rules about 150 times - even though they'll get away with it.
Their fans were very quiet through the game - according to Talksport
We held our own for a good hour of the game against a billion pound team.

I’d rather see Tresor or even Banel in for JBL in future.

I was deeply unconvinced by us resigning him and I’ve seen nothing so far to change my mind.

Not sure he did. I think he put out a team he genuinely thought would beat a League 1 side (man for man we were much stronger), and not risk them with getting injured, in preparation for upcoming fixtures, not just today's.

Agree with that. His "stats" from last time might have been decent but he seems to have long spells where he's completely anonymous, almost like the invisible man.

Nah, should have played the first team in the Cup and won that. Then played the reserves today and conceded five, then have a fully rested first team for next week.

No qualms about playing the second string in the CCCup but he should have had the first teasers on the bench as back if things went tit's up.

I don't think the team he put out was terrible, but the bench was ridiculous. We could have done with a couple of 1st choice players in the 2nd half, probably could have turned the game around.
And now we've taken our usual thumping at City.

What we could have done is played our strongest side vs Cardiff and 2 of our best players get injured for the rest of the reason.
Then put out our reserve side and lose 9-0.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

We're the only team to have beaten them, but look at the progress they have made.
Points on the board is what matters, we needed to beat Forest who have just lost to the only team we have beaten.
Wake up call, IMO.

We need to get a certain amount of points across a season- why did Forest have to be one of them?

People are overreacting for no reason it seems. City, United, Liverpool and Spurs were always likely to be fixtures we got nothing in- The other two we have won one and drawn one I think that's absolutley fine and pretty realistic for where we are and who we have played isn't it?

Historically you do have a point but I’d say at least 2 of them 4 teams are out of sorts & not the force they once was & can be beat on any given day. The Sunderland result is masking a multitude of sins without that things would be really bleak.

Why does that mean we needed to beat Forest?

Out of the two fixtures we actually had a chance of getting something from we've taken 4 points- thats a good return. We could have and should have had more from some of the others too, but that's by the by.

If we take 4 points each time we have 2 "easier" fixtures this season then we're going to have a good chance of staying up (which is a realistic ambition).

i don't think I'm over-reacting when I compare our result against a specific team to the result achieved by a team that we have beaten.
I'm just suggesting that we need to wake up. Playing well and dropping points isn't good enough for us to stay up.

I think your over reacting when you compare our results against another teams after 6 games, having played a completely different set of fixtures (and we've beat them)- to try and illustrate that we've "dropped" points by not beating Forest at home and that it was a must win game.

I assume you'll be expecting us to beat all of the bottom 8 at home then, and if we draw with anyone we've dropped points and it'll condem us. It's a bit silly when you phrase it like that isn't it.

I go into every game thinking we need to win. It's a competition, but beating the teams who are clearly no better than us is important.

Having slept over the defeat yesterday, my biggest worry is the way we capitulated for the last two goals-it could easily have been three goals in these closing minutes but for our keeper. THe defending was absolutely dire in the latter stages , and for the first time this season I was drawing a comparison with Kompany's early days with us in the PL. I keep my eye on the potential fellow strugglers and dont see in any of these teams having two defenders for example going for the same ball with Haarland on the pitch. No one gives a 3-1 defeat v City a second thought-I feel that would have been a great result, and got one of the toughest games out the way. We need to go into the next run of games with the same discipline we saw v Liverpool, and Forest. If there is a mini slump building then Parker and the coaches need to address this fast. We need to start playing our strongest midfield and not being over loyal to certain players like Laurent and JBL, and we need to get Broje fit and sharp so we can start giving him 30 minutes rather than 10. Get Broje playing 90 minutes in several U21 games, hes not going to get match sharp playing 10 minutes in a team thats probably already losing

Fair enough, and at the time I felt a point against Forest was a decent return all things considered. The next 3 games will tell us more about our chances of survival this season, although Villa away is probably not a game we are likely to win.

I'm still smarting over the two (extremely valuable!) points we literally threw away against Utd and Liverpool. We'd played well and worked unbelievably hard for those points and we almost got over the line and then messed up big style, twice. Being well beaten at Spurs and again yesterday I can accept and the point against Forest was well earned and actually fair and I have no issues with that. It's those two stupid last minute defeats which are utterly galling because not only does it deprive us of extra points which would make us look decent in lower mid table as opposed to bottom 3, but it saps confidence out of the team who have 4 defeats from 6.

Can’t just see how Broje Edwards or JBL are going to fit into this team ,if you remember towards the end of last season ,possible QPR there was a video showing 4 Burnley players bursting a gut to get back and defend ,can’t see any of these 3 breaking into a swear anytime soon.
