Wimbledon fc(80s/90s vintage)
They could never exist today. Players like Brentford's hogan were the type they'd give a top flight chance to, owing to their cheaper values in the transfer market. With the likes of him valued at 10m and lookman at 11m the Wimbledon of old story is consigned to history sadly.

Wimbledon v Liverpool is probably the only time that I haven't wanted the underdog to win an FA Cup final.
Jones, Wise and Fashanu, bunch of tw@ts.

I DID want Wimbledon to beat Liverpool and was so glad when they did. It was a bit like Leicester winning the PL. It gave everyone else outside the select few some hope!

Lookman at £11M is just an astonishing price. 7 goals for Charlton and £11M !!!! If he's that good I would have thought JBG might have tipped Sean off for a cheeky bid in the summer.

I'm sure I read that they would have preferred to part with Lookman than jbg at the time. Or maybe it's the keeper I'm getting confused with.Stalbansclaret wrote:Lookman at £11M is just an astonishing price. 7 goals for Charlton and £11M !!!! Seems there's a bit of a firesale at Charlton just now, they sold their full back to Sheff Weds yesterday too. Worrying times for the fans at the Valley.

Nor would they get away with the physical style of play that made them so successful

Lawrie Sanchez, used to watch him play for Reading back at Elm Park. I was chuffed when he got the goal that beat Liverpool in that cup final.

Re: Wimbledon fc(80s/90s vintage)
Wimbledon was a remarkable story. To get from non-league in the 1970s to top flight football and FA Cup winners in the 1980s looks impossible now but I would have thought it was impossible then. Not sure I wanted them to beat Liverpool though, had never forgiven them for the cup tie in 1975 when they were non-league.
It won't happen with a club again I don't think but what another remarkable story with them now, coming from the Combined Counties League to League One in just over a decade. This time I have more positive interest in them because of how they had their league place snatched from them.

i was 100% behind Wimbledon...though I'm sick of the media going on about how it was one of the biggest cup shocks ever. It's not even close to being the biggest shock in a final.
