Well I heard this song on Johnny Walker's Radio 2's show yesterday for about the first time in 35 years and I thought I would mention it on here, because it sounded pretty good to me for something that was recorded 42 years ago. Power Pop at it's best I would say and as some one else says..'I agree, there's a lot of later Beach Boys sound here, and always a lot of the Hollies'. Apparently John Lennon helped them get it made, and it is a big favourite of Bruce Springsteen's.
Eric Carmen is on vocals and plays the piano...the Raspberries were full of top musicians.

The "Rolling Stone Book Of Rock Lists" has this as the best song of 1974...a few more comments from the YouTube clip..
'beyond brilliant'
'Such a perfect perfect song'
'John Lennon, was down the hall recording I think 'Walls'.. anyway he heard this, dug it, and came in a few nites when the band was gone and helped with the production on this'
'Easily one of the top tracks of the 70's. Ironic given it's subject matter'
'About as good as a song can get..'
** there is a [very decent] live version available.

Johnny Walker my favourite DJ of all time along with the late Alan Freeman and Roger Scott. Incidentally an excellent tune.
