We were linked with him in the summer but Leeds said then, and repeated last week, that he wouldn't be sold.

Shame, as he's quality. Will only get better too.

We might've had a chance if Leeds were in the bottom seven as opposed to the top seven.

Isn't he out of contract in the summer? Puts a different perspective on it.

He has been the player I've wanted us to sign above all others. Would be thrilled if we got him.

Everton want him apparently, can't see him choosing us over them if he leaves Dirty Leeds this month.

I've always rated him and agree with the comments. Strangely, I was asking my mate about him at the weekend and he said he'd take any cash they can. I was surprised at the criticism, especially when adding that he's far too one footed. Perhaps so but when your good foot is bloody good, it's less of an issue.

I've been saying this since early September but we should be looking at Ryan Sessegnon down at Fulham.... the kid is 16 years old, a first team regular, capable of played LB, WB and LM.

He is only going to improve and increase in value.

Agreed..but we'd be joining a long queue for Sessegnon, who is real quality.

Think the starting bids for Sessegnon will be around 20 million if the papers are to be believed especially as Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelscum are interested

I think I'll start a thread that Messi could do a job for us. Not going to happen just like all these random wishful transfer threads people keep posting.

Shame we didn't move for him six months ago, I remember one poster who had been to see a a fulham game was very very impressed with him.

Doubt he'd cost £20m then

It was me! I even tweeted the club during the game I ask if we'd looked at the kid....

Genuinely I doubt that he'd cost £20 million now. Probably half that based on the Lookman transfer last week. From what I've been told of him he's a good lad and just wants to develop and play football. The prospect of first team football and a club willing to give him time to develop and not be replaced in 6-12 months by the next big thing/galactico might actually be a good thing in the favour of clubs like us...

Sadly we don't appear to have much of a scouting network, and even if we could identify these players they would be bought and then languish in the development squad.
SD agenda is hardened pros not young talent, we'll have to wait for a new manager for that.

Our development squad is awash with young talent brought in since SD arrived. We have Chris Long and Dan Agyei and Josh Ginelly all with big promise.

We've signed the likes of Andre Gray and Tark - and a good young keeper in Pope

and the best two overseas recruits any of us has seen at the club

I think our scouting network is just fine.

I'm afraid we were very dependent on one man for those signings, since which we have largely returned to type.
Whether any of those young players in the development squad will ever be given their chance appears unlikely.

Note how often Tarka and Pope have started for us and how much we paid for Gray.
We're not exactly in the market of unearthing young jewels although I believe Agyei is one.
Let's hope his development isn't allowed to stall.

There's been a couple of exceptions (in terms of younger players that SD has faith in) but, generally, ablueclaret has it right - SD will always favour the seasoned pro over younger players, it's part of his pragmatic, rather conservative approach. It's been successful so hey ho.
However to say the Development Squad is "awash with young talent" is pushing it a little, it's certainly awash with players but whether any of them will ever be good enough we might never find out (or at least be prepared to wait along time).

I feel the "returned to type" is the need to sign players which are ready NOW for keeping us in the PL. I'm sure we are still actively looking for young players for the future. Whether young players are given the chance is down to whether they are good enough, surely?

Aye but whilst Renny Smith languishes in the background, ABC will never be happy.

Another thing you have to take in to account is the way in which clubs like Man City who tempt all and sundry to their academy or City Select squads from a young age. They can afford to ship players in from all over the world, move their family etc, and if they don't make it then it doesn't matter to them. It's different at Burnley, our scouting network will be far smaller and we will have to have more confidence in being able to develop a player before offering them a place. It's just not a case of saying "he's good, let's get him".

There was another thread about him recently and like I mentioned on there, I would absolutely love it if we signed him; but I just can't see it. Leeds have a chance of going up automatically and even if he was to be sold, I expect there would be 'bigger' clubs than us wanting his services.

You mean the development squad full of talent that got licked 7-0 a couple of weeks ago? Yes, some of them were out on loan but still, 7-0 is some hammering for a side full of talent.

It's in the paper today Kieron Gibbs at Arsenal is after moving on in the summer. Could we get in early and get him signed?

Bags of pace and will add footballing quality to the side.

I'm talking in facts though, I'm not giving an opinion, just facts.
Why are you so upset I brought up the 7-0 thrashing we received a couple of weeks ago at u23 level? it's not my opinion, argue with the facts.

The success of the development squad shouldn't be measured on the results of games they play. It should be measured on whether any players actually develop into first team contributors. We won't know whether this group is a success or not for another year or so. O'Neill featuring early this season is promising though.

Taylor would no doubt be a good addition but I suspect not a priority at present.
Doesn't mean we shouldn't test the water with a bid.
I think we could probably get him for 5 or 6m and he could with premiership experience
double his value in a few years.

Considering the youth development system at Turf Moor has yielded a whopping... 3? players that featured regularly for us over the course of the last, what? 20 years or so is pretty much the only answer you need.
