Re: Trippier
Re: Trippier
Seems to have improved his all round game since he left us, was very impressive against AV
Re: Trippier
Obviously a massive biased opinion but he is better than Walker, Pochettino (sp?) Likes him, I think.

Re: Trippier
Kyle Walker is a better player, comfortably. Trippier was impressive today though and I agree with the poster who commented on him looking trimmer and more athletic - his build was something that I thought would hold him back but he looked in good shape.

Re: Trippier
I don't think walker is comfortably a better player, he can only do what he's done, make it hard to drop him by playing well. And in the last 2 games he's played very well, the cross for kanes goal was a peach

Re: Trippier
Walker better defensively, mainly through his fantastic pace getting him out of trouble.
Trips better attacking, both in link up play and delivery.

Re: Trippier
Sad really that a player who is with the Spurs stiffs most weeks, a club playing in the same league as us, is still out of our league both talent wise and financially. Just shows the feet of staying up will be.
Re: Trippier
Tripps would get in almost every other Premier League team - he is just unlucky he is behind the current best right back in the league.
This is the reason why it's extremely unlikely we would get Trippier back at Burnley - it's not to do with Burnley it's because he is that good.
Tripps loved playing for Burnley and hopefully at some pint in the future we will see him back at the club. If we don't we should just be happy that we had the pleasure of him playing for us.

Re: Trippier
No chance getting him back I'm afraid but he he would be ideal for us.
Should have stayed instead of being a well paid bench warmer/ cup player, would be in England contention by now if he'd have stayed as Heaton has shown by playing well regularly for us!

People still wittering on here that we need a winger. When they gonna realise that full backs are the wingers?

Think there's a very good chance we'll be in for a winger.dougcollins wrote:People still wittering on here that we need a winger. When they gonna realise that full backs are the wingers?

Re: Trippier
No such thing as a conventional winger now, they play on the opposite side to their natural foot. Stop, cut inside, wait for defence to regroup, cross ball. Repeat.
It'll be interesting who the first coach will be to revert to true wingers playing on their correct side though, probably create a load of goals and he'll be hailed as a tactical genius.

Assuming he signed for 3 years he is half way through his contract
Just seen CT's comment that Tripps has 31/2yrs left to 2020 so he must have signed a 5yr contract

Re: Trippier
For aa attacking full back, Spurs is probably one of the best clubs to be at. The full backs are always pushing up, they gave us real problems when we played them. It was noticeable how often Trippier was on the edge of the box for Spurs when they were attacking, it's unlikely that would be the case for us.
I do remember teams targeting him because of his height when he played for us, having a big striker drop left and slinging long balls up at him. I'm not sure if Spurs' formation helps negate this or whether it could still be an issue.

Post of the day so far, doug. Oh the arguments I have with my lad about "wingers".
Reportedly linked with West Ham but then just about everybody is and then doesn't go there. That said Hogan looks like he might be gracing the turf of the Taxpayer's Stadium.

Re: Trippier
Walker is a one-footed footballer. Close the space on the line and he always goes back or sideways. Tripps is a better crosser of the ball.

Re: Trippier
I bet Trippier was one of those kids who was always out on the street kicking a football against a wall, waiting for a friend or two to start a game.
Re: Trippier
Tripper is a much better footballer but Walker has got the pace and strength. How often does Walker deliver a quality ball into he box? Can't think of many to say how much he gets forward.
Re: Trippier
Hate 'wingers' playing on the wrong side. If it was so effective Fergie would have played Giggs and Beckham on the opposite wing. Nothing better than a whipped in cross followed by a bullet header.

Conventional wingers were usually very quick and would aim to get down to the by-line and cross, but could also cut inside and score a few, a'la Leighton James. Exciting players to watch.
You are probably right in that the first coach to play wingers conventionally will he hailed as a genius.

Re: Trippier
Football changes. Defenders have got better and full backs are far more quick and athletic. It's much harder for a winger to get into a crossing position and then deliver a cross. Strikers who are big, strong in the air, old fashioned number 10's are few and far between. These are a few of the reasons why few teams' primary mode of attack is to get the ball out wide and put a cross in.
Watching Glen Little rinse a short fat full back before hanging a cross up for Gareth Taylor used to be a joy to watch but you've got to accept that the game evolves.

Re: Trippier
I agree to an extent Rileybobs, but surely it's not all about pace for either the full back or the winger. Glen Little wasn't quick but often beat his man on the by-line with his trickery similar with Robbie Blake. Although you are right in respect of full backs been quicker and more athletic, this tends to aid their attacking prowess more than their defending. Great defenders are often that due to their reading of the game and timing of the tackle.
Similarly forwards don't need to be big to be strong in the air, although going back some time, both Peter Noble and Paul Fletcher were superb in the air. Again timing coupled with the ability to jump higher than most.
