I was the opposite - didn't look twice at "do I not like...." and started a separate post.
As said, Graham Taylor died of a heart attack.
My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
RIP

Someone earlier on this thread said "not the greatest manager", but his record in club football was phenomenal in it's own way.
He got Lincoln, Watford & Villa a combined total of 7 promotions and led Watford & Villa to runners-up in the top division. He got Watford to a cup final. He'd done all of that by the time he turned 55.
Taylor never really managed a top club side, but there haven't been many managers who can boast that level of consistent success.
RIP

Germany did not want the English hordes in their country at any price.

Always thought he was a good bloke. He actually had a decent record on paper as an England manager. The press didn't want him and eventually they won. Makes me sick how the press are now showing all the tributes to him after all the bullying grief they gave him. It'll be the same in a few years when Gazza goes, the **** journalists will make out they were his best friend.
RIP Graham Taylor - a proper football bloke...

A mate of mine had his season ticket stolen when he was attacked by Wolves fans outside our local.
Graham Taylor sent him £80 or so to put towards a new one.
R.I.P. Mr Taylor

Nail on the head. Did his best, genuinely cared, and got thrashed for it when it fell apart.

Always liked Graham Taylor, he never hid and always answered questions honestly. To have been ridiculed by the tabloids largely due to subbing Lineker in an England qualifier - V Sweden? - was disgraceful The Watford achievement was phenomenal and their fans should always be grateful to him and EJ.
Became a decent pundit as well.
Like most others on this thread the news came as a bit of a shock at only 72.

ClaretTony wrote:Sadly not the case. As he applauded the Watford fans, Burnley fans were on the pitch spitting at him. It was very distasteful and was certainly no reflection on Taylor.
Always came across as a really good bloke to me.
I remember being at that game and seeing that. It was embarrassing. I don't think you can call idiots like that 'fans' to be honest. I prefer to call them d!cks.

Nobody deserved the treatment he received from the gutter press.
That's right, but it's what they do best.
You have to question someone who picks Carlton Palmer to play for England, but not enough that it gets to the moronic stage.

virtually destroyed by the **** papers and sappy media, a really decent man, and an incredible manager for watford.
I always admired him, this is very sad news indeed. The vapid journalists and pub wankers who joined in to ridicule him are dog excrement.

Sad news, a real 'football man" and always seemed like a nice guy.
I was in the Bob Lord stand near the front and was stood up applauding him in that last game and as he walked past called out "all the best Graham", he looked up smiled and said " thank you", wonder how many others would have bothered to acknowledge.
Not sure if it was same game but I have a memory of the Burnley fans singing "turnip, turnip, give us a wave and he duly obliged!"
RIP Graham

The Daily Mirror today has a couple of pages dedicated to the man and there's a list of tributes from people that knew him, top of the list is our Sean. "He played a massive part in me taking over at Watford. I'm absolutely devastated by the news."
