I remember that night very well.
I was on Guard duty but the duty sergeant sorted it so I could listen to the commentary on BFBS Radio.
Had to do 7 hours out of 9 on the gate after the match.

Yep.Stan Tastic wrote:Lawro cleared one off the line when we were 1-0 up which would have made it interesting.
Steve Taylor clean through took it round Grobelaar didn't hit it hard enough, Lawrenson cleared off the line.
I was right behind it in the Bee Hole.

Went to both. Can't remember much as I was a little 'un. Sat at the side at Anfield although we were amongst Liverpool fans.
Cricketfield end at the turf and it was noisy. I didn't really understand aggregate scores or cup/league so just took it we'd won a match against Liverpool and remained happy all week. Oh to be young

I always quoted this as my 'favourite game ever' on the Turf, until we started getting some serious competition in the Coyle/Dyche era.
15 years old on the Longside, swaying with the flow of the game, you really were part of the action on the pitch in a way that just doesn't exist anymore.
And we beat the best club side in Europe, in front of a full house, in a season where home gates in the Second Division (that's the Championship for you youngsters) dipped below 7,000 at times. No wonder this match stood out.
As an aside, it makes my blood boil when commentators try to denigrate the League Cup. Whilst relegation in '83 was painful, it's the Liverpool, Spurs and Birmingham games that live in the memory, and every season a few lower league clubs get the opportunity to tackle one of big clubs. Why would you deny them that?

I was at both legs, Kemlyn Road at Anfield with the family, we had no bother at their ground but I remember being a bit scared.
I remember Derek Scott having 3 chances/half chances in that leg, wasn't it his birthday too?
In the Longside for the second leg, crushed to a pulp when we scored but learned a valuable lesson; stand on the front side of the barriers next time....
Dead proud of the way we played.
