Should have tried to out football them, not stoop to getting them sent off and engaging in a physical battle with them.

He was by far our best player today and I can understand him getting riled the way Rhead behaved. I thought perhaps that he had his shoulder dislocated at one stage. Leave him alone. We'd be in deep **** without him.

I'm not sure falling to the ground clutching his head in total simulation counts as 'fight'. He wasn't the worst out there today but he certainly wasn't the Joey Barton that we've been fortunate enough to witness.

He's let himself become a target again today, but he was the only one in our team who was up for it.
That plus the loads of good and great stuff he's done for us means we should cut him a bit of slack

He's still got the Mojo has our Joey, I'll let him have that one today, he will Bollock himself for it and use it as a positive.

He was one of the few Burnley players who did at least try to play football.
Don't think there would be many complaints, if following Rhead's dismissal, we went onto win the game.

It's not easy though to try and out-football a team, any team, when you can't control the bloody thing in the first place. Even Lincoln players seemed to be able to control a football better than us. We looked scared to death when we were on the ball; as if each player didn't want it.

For most of the game I thought Barton was our best player, one towering header he won when he attacked the ball springs to mind. He showed he was up for the battle. Clearly Lincoln targeted him and him and Rhead were at each other all match, however he did let himself down with the stamp etc.
Fortunately he can focus his mind back to what he does best and that is influencing games

Surprised at some of the comments on here and how quick some people are to kick one of our players.
BTW: There's no way that Barton had the 'red mist' of old today. He was in control and gave back what he took. Years ago he would have lost it, but he didn't. So get a grip, ffs.

Hardly a stamp. He simply trod on his toes. They were a surprisingly difficult team to play against. Most, if not all, of them looked horrible. Best to just put it behind us.

IMO the ref really didn't help matters, he was a complete wallflower for the whole game and at one point it looked like he'd lost control to me. There should have been bookings for each side which weren't given and this in turn led to it spilling over with the Barton incident. Fair play to Lincoln, their game plan worked but I can't help but feel all this could have been avoided had we fielded a full strength team. I'm very frustrated but the best course of action is probably to just put this game behind us, move on and focus on the league. UTC!

Sean Dyche has said how much he detets cheats, he said his own lad plays football, and he would hate the antics of pro players to filter down to grass roots level
wonder how he will regard bartons display today.

I agree with this. I thought overall he was pretty poor. He went from having a Lincoln shirt on underneath in the first half, to just not knowing what was going on in the second.

I don't want a disgrace thank you, he should not have allowed himself to be dragged in to it, he knew what to expect, and then to try and stamp on someone and pretend you've been hit in the face is a disgrace, something dyche says should be kicked out of the game, let's see what he does about this

Second half was the Barton we were warned about before he signed, and the one we were told have pitched up at Ibrox.
In the first half though he was one of very, very few Burnley players to even get a pass-mark.
He deserves all the criticism he gets after that second 45 minutes but I'll wait and see which one turns up for however games he's got left in the rest of the season before writing him off.

If he continues with that sort of particularly ridiculous play-acting and simulation he could very well end up at Barcelona or Real Madrid.

There's no defending what he did today but equally there's no defending the fat knacker he trod on, who should have been sent off for an elbow in the first half.
There were a few clashes between the pair that were just that but one was a shocker.

After one of the 'fat knackers' challenges, I genuinely thought that Joey had dislocated his shoulder - he went off for a little physio - and half expected him to take some form of retribution.
Lincoln were a horribly over aggressive unit. A nasty bunch of individuals who will unfortunately grace the lower echelons of the football league from next season. I for one do not find that a very enticing prospect and hope that we don't cross paths again. In many ways I'm glad that we don't have to visit that not so fair city for a replay. We'd be lucky to get out of there alive. A race apart.

In fairness Joey was clattered from behind when jumping for a ball by (I think?) Rhead early doors and I don't think the ref even gave a foul when I thought it plainly was and was probably a booking. That upset him for the rest of the game and although it was clearly his job to "screen" Rhead from winning the headers/flick ons, once he'd "lost it" SD should have assigned someone else as it looked like a sending off waiting to happen. It's also worth pointing out that it wasn't working as the fat lad won almost every header anyway!

Exactly. Did Joey do anything like that? No he didn't. He just stood on his little pinkies to rile him up. Rhead is a throwback to the Dark Ages.

I have recently read his book and am really impressed by how he has evolved as a man.
He was kicked from pillar to post last season but rode it all brilliantly.
He is a superb player and when he reflects on today I think he will be quietly embarrassed but will move on from it.
As long as he doesn't get banned for too many games Joey will be a big factor in the rest of the season.
Up the Clarets.

When the ref let that challenge go unpunished on Joey so early on when it was so blatantly a shocking elbow was when the ref lost all control of the game. If he'd correctly sent him off then the rest wouldn't have happened. Number 8 ''doing' JBG wasn't much better but at least the ref did his job with a yellow. Oh, and a lovely word for the ''amazing'' Lincoln support as they sang ''cheerio'' to him as he left the pitch injured. Lincoln can get smashed in the next round for me.

I thought he was the best player on the park for a fair chunk of the first half, but it's difficult to remember any really positive contribution from him in the second. I think he should have been subbed with Mee coming on, Tarkowski moving into centre midfield.

I read somewhere on SM today that we should be grateful as Joey was showing the passion that the other players lacked. I didnt go on - I have no idea if that looked like the case. But if so, he did the same at Rangers with a bad ending. It is not for JB to decide who feels what.

The word disgrace is getting some hammer on this thread and the only thing that's disgraceful is people not supporting Barton. I'm looking forward to showing my support next week to a guy who will more than likely give a man of match performance for the team. Yes he got involved but that's who he his and in my opinion it's a shame some of the others in the team didn't show the same 'fight' and 'balls' he did and put it on the line. Asking for Dyche to get involved and punish him is pathetic

Joey must have had his pre-match drink spiked as unlike every other game he has played in claret &blue where he has been kicked from pillar to post he always just picked himself up, didn't make a fuss and cracked on. Today his alter ego suddenly turned up. Thought he had grown out of that unhelpful approach. The ongoing sideshow didn't help in any way shape or form today.
