Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
As Rooney gets older he's going to want to sit in front of the back 4 and spray those Hollywood balls out to the flanks.
Which h is a job I think we have earmarked for Tarks.
So no.

Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
Rooney started playing regular 1st team football at 16 - he has had a 15 year career - at that level with his build it is pretty damn good - Michael Owen didn't last that long. Play too many games too young in the Premier League and it tends to mean you finish at an earlier age - very few make it as long as he has at the level he has.

I don't think there is a doubt about his talent and work rate. It's his character that we need to know about. Will he fit in with what we've got or will he be a 'big time Charlie'?
If he can raise the game of others it would be worth considering.

Wasn't Chris Long actually the last Evertonian to play for Burnley?wilks_bfc wrote:Pretty sure Gazza was after Dobo

Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
I find it hilarious that anyone on here thinks we would have half a chance of signing him, and even more hilarious that some seem to think he wouldn't be a good signing.

Shame The Mix has closed, could have been a trump card in our negotiations.

Hilarious that people think that England's record goalscorer who has won everything in the game is not good enough for Burnley at 31 years of age.
Got to love the 'He's good, but he's no Ashley Barnes' mentality

It would be like signing Gascoigne all over again. A complete waste of money.

Everton would be a good spot because he grew up supporting them.

I really find that a strange comment ?ontario claret wrote:It would be like signing Gascoigne all over again. A complete waste of money.
Without question Rooney would improve the balance of the team immeasurably. His signing would have the added benefit of attracting other talented players and open up additional commercial opportunities.
Rooney or Barnes ? Now let me think..........................................................

Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
John Johnson, one is a has-been, long past his best due date. The other is a player in his prime, without much mileage on him, who comes a MUCH cheaper price. I'm sure glad you're not running the club.

Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
You wouldn't get his wages and ego through the dressing room door at a club like ours.
If it could happen it'd be brill but there's no chance.

Who will pay his wages, will his pride let him take a dip in salary? I doubt it. Everton won't pay it, that's for sure.

Sorry but Rooney has never come across as having an ego to me.boiledclaret wrote:You wouldn't get his wages and ego through the dressing room door at a club like ours.

It should be instantly Barnes with any remotely knowledgeable football fan.

I'm assuming people saying they'd have Barnes over Rooney are trolling us.
It is a joke, right?

Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
And the money you would save by staying away from Rooney you could put towards signing Michael Keane to a long-term contract. Better for the club in both regards.

Rooney is lazy. No where near the drive, passion and work ethic Barton has!Spijed wrote:He's only 31. Barton is 34!

Re: Could Rooney be a Claret?
Barton is a young 34. He's had a long time to rest because of his various suspensions and run-ins with the law. Rooney is an old 31. Getting those hair implants took a lot out of him.

But the implants DID make him look less like Shrek.
