Fantastic

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sat Apr 15, 2017 5:06 pm

Best away performance ive seen at this level. Scoreline totally not reflective of it. From back to front we showed we deserve to be at this level.

Gutted with result but at least others went our way.

Nuthin up front again lets the whole day down. Our keeper defence and midfield played well, but we are lacking a prem striker and we lacked pace in the 1st

We are actually starting to look like a good mid-table PL side.

Couldn't agree more. We gave them a right good game and certainly 3 1 flatters them. If we could just have put away one of those chances before half time it could have been a different story.

Striker desperately required in the summer. Much improved display though.

Out played a team looking to Europe for large parts of the game. Unlucky not to come away with anything, encouraging performance.

Thought that was an excellent all round preformance. It's one of them really. If Gray had those opportunities in the first half, with his extra pace. May have put them away. Coulda, shoulda, woulda I know.
I think SD could possibly have brought on Defour and Gray a little earlier as we seemed to be sitting deeper. Still, Overall, I thought 3-1 was harsh. Beaten by a wicked deflection and a moment of quality from Lukaku.
I know he didn't end up bringing on Defour in the end but I'd have brought him on with Gray maybe a good ten/fifteen minutes into the second half.
Do agree that with a bit more potency up front that could have been a differenct scoreline, but we're living in the here and now.

Could easily have got a point or 3. Two big chances missed by Vokes and 2 cleared off the line. They got a very scrappy goal and an own goal although Mirelas missed 2 great chances. Other results went our way so no problems

Certainly our best away performance of the season today. Cant fault our effort and defensive framework but we lack real quality in attacking areas and the fluidity to really open teams up.

They did us proud today. Spending the Keane money on a striker of similar quality next season could well make the difference

Didn't recognise ourselves for the first 25 minutes or so. Excellent performance, best
away showing of the season so far.

If we could only put decent crosses into the box. Apart from a couple of crackers from Lowton in
the 1st half, our crossing ability is dreadful. Even corners are invariably shocking.

Shouldn't complain though, we're doing alright, all in all.

Poor finishing again cost us. That's the first half dominated now against the last 4 sides away from home and not making it count. Good game today though and without the spawny second it may have been a different game. I still think we should have made a sub on 60/65 to strengthen the middle of the park - they were getting more of the run on the second balls in a way they weren'tin the first. Maybe Westwood for Barnes or Vokes and change shape a little for 15 or so before bringing Gray on to run at them

From a Toffee on the BBC report comments section;
"Think the title of the Article is a bit Harsh on Burnley, I would not say we eased past them. First Half they were dominant. One of the best performances from an Away team I've seen at Goodison and the Burnley fans showed exactly why they are a very classy lot! Impeccable support for the 96! You improve the league with your presence. Here's to your safety! - EFC Fan"

I wasn't at today's match but great to see the consistency in all of these comments which suggest that we gave a sound and solid account of ourselves at Goodison.

I didn't expect much from today so I did see this game as a bit of a 'free hit'..

Several of our rivals lost, particularly Swansea and Hull, so good news there - we are nearly 'safe' I believe, and if we are on our 'A' game next weekend we may well upset those 'prima donna's' from down the A56.

Today was very much a case of quality winning the day. We matched Everton for large periods of the game and had the better opportunities in the first half. Without sounding disrespectful to our own players the difference today was that our attacking threat was Vokes and there's was Lukaku. If we could introduce a potent striker to this side we'd be in much better position to compete. In many ways it's the only missing piece of the jigsaw and perhaps the most difficult and expensive to find.

Think im on my own thinking the change to barnes and vokes worked well. Thought they looked good together. Strong. Held and linked it well. The only thing missing was pace. Them two with Gray and another would be fine. Get Agyei out to the championship.

Agreed. Just lacked that pace.

Boyd and Brady complimented each other too.

How did daniel Agyei play in his 12 minutes or so on the field. Look as if there is a striker in there?

Went with some Evertonian mates of mine and they all agreed that, of the eight in a row they've won at home, this was the hardest.

I agree we need an upgrade up front, but for me the quality of balls into the box has been the main problem recently. How many can crosses went straight down their keeper's throat yesterday?
