Sarf wrote:Hi, Palace fan here, just seeing what you think of the Dyche rumours.

First of all I think Dyche is a fantastic manager and he would be a pretty good fit for us, but I don't see it. The links have come from our historic appointments and yeah historically Dyche would be exactly the type of manager Parish would be after. However historically we've made these types of appointment mid season. Parish now has the opportunity to appointment before preseason and I reckon this new situation will be (hopefully) reflected in the appointment.

As far as the odds have done, a few days ago we were nailed on for Monk, Moyes, Hodgson and SIlva so shows what good indications those are. I believe the same person reporting what Dyche has apparently said was the same person that said we were in for Silva, which we quite clearly weren't as when we were apparently talking to Silva in London, Parish was in Mallorca talking to Zaha.

(as a slight aside, I'm interested in were Parish gets his "difficult to deal with" persona comes from? Also, I wouldn't say we're particularly trigger happy with our managers, only Pardew and Burley have been sacked, Holloway mutual consent and Warnock doesn't count...the rest left)
Dyche has done a terrific job with us no doubt, but I think you would need to give him time as fans before you made a judgement. When he first joined us he focused solely on the defence, the football became a lot worse but results gradually improved. He hasn't had many "flair" players to utilise at Burnley, and any that he's bought haven't really featured that often (but there aren't many) this has meant that we've struggled to impact in the final third, and it's difficult to see Wether it's how he operates or if it's how he operates within our budget. We haven't seen him with players like Zaha though, they could be just what he needs to make his teams more effective going forwards.

He definitely offers stability, but I don't think he will offer much short term success. Can you deal with that?

Considering we've had little of either stability or success in the recent times - even our FA cup run was heavily tinged with league worry - I don't think as a fanbase in general we'd see Dyche's appointment as being a disappointment (if it were to happen). We won't know how Dyche will react, but our flair players has dealt with their share of "non-flair" managers and arguably those have been the clubs most successful, so I believe they'd work with Dyche if he showed them a viable game plan.

Who thinks Dyche will be gone by next week?

Post by jurek » Tue Jun 06, 2017 6:07 pm

Given the latest rumours (if they are true that is) that Palace will be interviewing
three possible new managers this week, one of which is Dyche how many think
he will still be with us?

I have to say that if he is going down to be interviewed one must presume he's more than
interested and will more than likely be offered it.

So I expect us to be looking for a new manager next week.
Wish it wasn't so. Really do.

It's not really short term success that I meant I suppose, I think the best way I can put it is I think you'd have a similar season next year as this year under Dyche, but the football would be worse. I do think given time he could improve you no end, but I think you'd have to write off next season in some respects and focus on what it could be in 2/3 years time.

dont think he will go, not really bettering himself. if a bigger club came in then i wouldnt blame him, but the so called bigger clubs all seem to lean towards managers from overseas. like most fans i would hate to see him leave. im more worried who we might get if he does go. please sean stay at a place where you are adored. utc

Plenty of examples out there of successful managers moving on to "bigger and better things", sometimes to clubs ten years ahead of where they are leaving, and then making an absolute pigs ear of everything that follows.

Sometimes a manager and a club just fit. Our manager "gets" us. The players, the club, how we have to operate. He's bought into us, and we've bought into him. He's no mug. He's a smart fella. He knows he will be given all the time he needs here to achieve what he wants. He won't get that elsewhere - certainly not at palarse.

I'm not worried about losing him to palarse. If a big club came knocking, maybe I would be worried. But they aren't the club for him. And I'm hoping like hell I've got this right.

The best manager in my generation we have had but have to be truthful that i am not overly bothered by this. I doubt he will go anyway which may be my reason for being not too bothered at the mo, if he does go my view may well change ha ha.

The money is great and all that being in the richest league in the world but I do want to see the team evolve from what we are at present. This next 12 months if Dyche stays will be the biggest of his managerial career. He needs to transform us into a much better footballing team otherwise he will never get considered for top jobs. He might make a lot of money but does Dyche want to be regarded as another Pulis?

Imho I think his work is done here. Unfortunately. What more is there for him to achieve? A top 10 finish? Then why not do that at Palace?

I don't think he needs to take another club up. He done that twice and achieve survival once. He got to be looking further up the table now.

No way will he step down a league regardless of who and how much money to spend. The Championship is unforgiving and he knows this.

I'd be very surprised if Dyche went for an interview. His position at Burnley is as secure as a manager's can be; I doubt he would leave that to go to Palace, unless he believed that Palace wanted him above all others. If they offered him the job right now, he could go. If they offered him an interview, I doubt it.

If Sean Dyche did go for talks with Palace, then we should part company with him.

If Dyche went for talks with Palace, it would be after being given official permission. (On the other hand, if his agent were to have had talks with Palace, I wouldn't be at all surprised. That's not a dig at Dyche - I suspect few agents, or their principals, take too seriously the rules about contact with players/managers under contract.)

loyalty is or should be everything to fans, it would be wholly unacceptable for a manager to hold talks with another club then expect to carry on with same approval rating as previously. If he stayed put with us having had talks elsewhere, then it breaks a bond somehow. Trust would be lost.well. it would for me at any rate. I'm all for people seeking challenges, but I don't want to know if its about Burnley losing out, just because temptation was put in the way. That just wouldn't do at all. Imagine him talking things up if we all knew he was only here because the deal another club offered wasn't to his liking !

I have heard that the house he rents / owns near Burnley is on the market.

That doesn't mean he's off to Palace, but it means something is changing.

If you work somewhere where you are appreciated and supported it does make it a very hard decision even if a more lucrative offer is available.

Add in the safety net of being sacked will give you a god payout still and that you have a board who historically have supported managers through rough periods, you will feel confident that your job is looked at with reasonable appreciation.

I do find it difficult to accept that Dyche will be as eager as the papers make out. When held in such high esteem by many, you don't become desperate no matter how you may really feel.

If Dyche goes it will be a shock to me because unless they are a top 10 club, he is no better off in this league as it's a 2 tiered league.

I do think given time he could improve you no end, but I think you'd have to write off next season in some respects and focus on what it could be in 2/3 years time.
Yeah I hear you. I'd be ok with that, I think most reasonable Palace fans would be.. 40-45 points, reaching the 40 mark with a couple of "winnable" games left.

I get why a lot of you think going to us isn't a step up, aside from our current squad and being a couple of years ahead in terms of length in the PL (which is partly negligible due to our managerial upheaval) there's very little to split our two sides, maybe we have a higher ceiling when it comes to finances. However, I don't see Dyche getting a job with anyone significantly bigger. His ceiling is mid table security with the odd decent cup run or break into Europe on the very odd occassion. The Burnley board need to give him the budget to do that now or risk losing him, if it's not Palace, then it could be Stoke, Newcastle, Br*ghton, WBA or whoever in a year or so time.

Anyway, I don't think you have anything to worry about, my money is on Roger Schmidt being our new manager.

Sean Dyche now a short-priced favourite with almost all bookmakers trading at around Evens.

The 7/2 now a distant memory.
