Amber Rudd's in trouble in Hastings :D

I bet the modellers at YouGov are getting ready to feel quite smug right now.

Rumour is that Amber Rudd could be in trouble in her Hastings seat.

Wow if the exit poll is correct, I think we would soon have our third prime minister within 12 months.

I voted Tory but after a campaign as poor and presumptuous as the Conservatives and May have run, its little more than they deserve.

Perhaps the shakeup that politics and parties need.

SNP down 22 if correct.

Alex Salmond and Angus Robertsons seats both at risk.

If the tories had been up against a more credible opposition minus Abbott and Corbyn they would have been routed if these exit polls are correct.

Theresa May ran a terrible campaign, as many posters on here had been claiming for the past few weeks, and that opinion remains correct even if she staggers over the line in first place.

Having claimed that she wanted a "strong mandate" with which to enter Brexit negotiations she may have to go to Brussels looking weaker than the pound.

She treated the pensioner vote with contempt (scrapping the triple lock and winter fuel allowance) and having been treated like turkeys they may have decided not to vote for Christmas.

This might keep the UK together. I was expecting that if there was a massive majority for the Tories then it would grease the skids for Scotland to vote to Leave the UK given how sick they are of Tory rule despite them always voting against it. It was one of the major reasons for voting Yes in '14 and if it was shown that the UK was going even further to the right when Scotland is very much to the left then it'd have been really tough to convince Scots to stick with the UK given how opposed they are to the ideas of the rest of the country.

Pound was bound to drop most with prospect of a hung Parliament. (It's not purely down to anti-Labour sentiment)

Can we all agree now that this means that given the choice of a hard or soft brexit the UK broadly supports the softer brexit?

Can't do with her. Alistair Campbell called her a 'Maybot', made me laugh.

never said it was anti labour.....this is without doubt the worst result that could happen, one party needed a clear majority to manage brexit and security issues... if correct another election is likely next year if not before and undoubtedly with a new tory leader,,,

It's a small wall compared to the cliff it fell off last year, from which it didn't recover.

Pound will bounce back. Political uncertainty always moves the pound.

I still think that the poll is too good to be true and it'll be a Tory majority by 15. Not the 50 I thought earlier. Theresa May have committed political suicide.

I get free nothing and pay a lot into the system. It's a rejection of fear politics, with how Brexit campaign was run it was obvious fear politics is being rejected. Theresa May took the electorate for granted and is reaping what she has sown.

I disagree with this. I'm 29 and I have been amazed by the amount of people I know who are voting for the first time because of JC. I'm not his biggest fan but IMO this is down to him being there

It always seemed sensible to have cross party non-partisan approach to Brexit rather than allowing one party to represent the country.
You do accept do you that the brexit vote was won with the votes of people from all parties? It wasn't just Tories who voted to leave.

One party needed a clear mandate for Brexit negotiations because that is what Theresa May told everybody when calling the election.

If she fails to get that mandate more egg on her face than in an SD omelette.

Scratching out a majority when expected to win by 100 plus seats is not a strong mandate.

If the Tories had been up against any opposition except Corbyn there would have been a) a Tory landslide OR b) no election

absolutely people voted for brexit from all parties..however i feel that in negotition one party with a definitive view / either labour or tory is the better option...i have heard nothing this year from any party that suggests a non partizan approach is possible...

First result in 67% turnout. 15,000 majority for Labour. No surprise there though at Newcastle central. Would like to see how it compared to the model.

Labour 65% of the vote, tories 25%

Exit poll predicted 7% swing to Labour; actual 2%.

That's another underperfomance for Labour relative to the exit poll.
